Chapter 35: Jake

When I entered the room again, Logan and Victoria seemed to be frozen as Amy looked on in confusion.

"So Dr. Leigh said she'll be here soon," I said slowly, trying to assess the situation and understand what the hell was going on.

"Amy," Logan said in a low voice. "Would you mind leaving me and my sister to have a talk?"

Amy frowned. "What? Why can't I—"

"Please."

At this, Amy's expression softened. "Okay. Call me back if you need anything." She smiled tightly at me before lightly touching my arm and nodding toward the door.

"Jake, you stay," Logan said without turning toward us.

Amy glowered at his back. "Why can he stay?"

The room was silent for a few moments before Logan spoke again. "I'll explain everything to you later, darling. But please just go sit outside right now."

Amy looked back at him in confusion before finally leaving the room.

"What happened?" I asked cautiously.

"Who is this Ava girl?" He demanded, turning toward me and taking a few threatening steps forward. Victoria was still looking down at her hands. I looked closer to see that she was staring at a piece of paper a good distance away from her.

"Ava who? Ava Kingston?" I raised my eyebrows.

He nodded. "Who is she?"

"She's a pretty well known model," I told him, trying to figure out why he was so curious.

"Who is she to you?" He asked again.

"She's my ex girlfriend," I said, narrowing my eyes. "Why does it matter?"

"Your ex-girlfriend is making threats against my sister who is your current girlfriend." He snatched up the piece of paper from the bed and thrust it into my hands.

You just refuse to get out of the way, don't you? He's always been mine and it's time you learned that.

I looked back up at Logan. He was almost my height but I felt small next to him as he looked at me with anger blazing in his eyes.

"How do you know it's her?" I asked him.

"How do I—can you please use your brain? I thought you were the heir to one of the biggest companies to the world! How the hell are you gonna do that if you don't know how to use the thing in between your ears?" He let out a sigh of frustration.

"Or you could explain things to me," I said calmly.

I knew Ava. She would never try to attack anyone. Victoria kept telling me that she had threatened her but I knew that wasn't possible. Ava was so sweet and submissive. She was never  aggressive.

"Ava starts with an A. This note was signed off with an A,"  Logan said slowly.

I looked at him blankly. "Okay and?"

"Victoria told me it was Ava who attacked her right before she lost consciousness. Why would she randomly say her name if it wasn't her? And it's too much of a coincidence for her to say she got attacked by this girl and then get this note."

"What's wrong with this note?" I said, reading it over to see if there was anything too suspicious. "It tells her to enjoy some chocolate."

"So do you just pick and choose what you see? It says that you were always hers. Did you just not read that?"
