[VICTORIA]
Jake looked at me in shock. "What?"
"Well, we know the threat now, but you're safe as long as you're here. I won't have to think about your protection anymore," I tried to reason.
He let out a bark of laughter. "So we'll just break up and get back together whenever you want? I'll just sit here and let you break my heart, right?"
"Jacob, you don't—"
"No, you don't get it. It's one thing to break it all off, but it's a whole other thing to kiss my best friend and make it look like I had done something wrong in our relationship. Do you know how bad I've had it the past three months? Wondering what I had done wrong?"
I paused as I took in what he said. "You did nothing wrong."
"Did I know that then?"
I shook my head. "No. I'm sorry for the pain I caused you, Jacob. But, please believe me when I say that I did it for you."
He looked at the hand that was wearing his ring. "It took me three months to get over you and you wanna get back together just like that?"
I scoffed. "That's bullshit. If you were actually over me, you wouldn't carry around our engagement rings."
He opened and closed his mouth several times as he tried to think of a way to respond but in the end he said nothing. I gave myself a mental pat on the back.
I took his hand in mine. "Jacob, I love you. I love you so much and I am so sorry I didn't tell you before. I'm sorry for leaving you like that and I will do everything I can to make up for it."
Jake looked up at me slowly. "Like what?"
"Well, what do you want me to do?" I asked him.
He smirked before looking me up and down. "You're injured. My ideas would not be practical right now."
Blood rushed to my cheeks in embarrassment as I realized what he meant. He wanted to have sex. As I thought about it, the idea appealed to me more. I hadn't done anything remotely sexual since I left him and I would be lying if I said I didn't have an itch.
"Jacob!" I chided. "Say something that's practical then."
He shrugged. "I don't know. Think of it yourself."
I gritted my teeth and tried to think of an idea. After a few seconds, I glanced back up at him. My idea was extremely stupid but hopefully it would be cute enough for him to forgive me.
"Come here," I said softly.
He moved from the foot of the bed to settle next to my head. He raised his eyebrows questioningly.
"Keep count," I said. "To a hundred."
He just gave me a confused look. I leaned up and pressed a kiss against his cheek. He didn't move as he just looked at me in bewilderment.
"I love you," I whispered. I pressed a kiss to his other cheek. "I love you." Another kiss to his neck. "I love you." A whisper of a kiss across his collarbone. "I love you."
I looked up at him through my lashes to see that he was looking at me with a softness in his eyes. He raised an eyebrow when I stopped.
"You still have another ninety six left," he informed me.
I nodded and leaned forward to pull his shirt to the side and kissed his shoulder. "I love you." I went to kiss him again but Jake stopped me.
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Why are you stopping me?"
