[AMY]
Two Years Later
The sound of my retching filled the room as I hurled into the toilet.
"Are you okay?" Victoria asked in a concerned voice, standing in the doorway of the bathroom.
I obviously couldn't respond with vomit coming out of my mouth.
She hurried to me and knelt down to hold my hair back as I continued to throw up. She gently rubbed my back, calling out for Ivy. I reached up to flush the toilet and stood up to rinse out my mouth. I watched Ivy appear in the doorway with her daughter on her hip, eyes full with concern.
"What's wrong?" Ivy asked.
"Amy was throwing up," Victoria answered, giving me a questioning look.
I didn't respond as I brushed my teeth to get the taste of vomit out of my mouth. Ivy and Victoria just exchanged looks before Ivy cleared her throat.
"I'm fine," I said harshly. Turning around, I walked over to Ivy and took her daughter from her.
"Hi, Caroline," I murmured, a smile automatically coming to my face as soon as I saw her.
She giggled. "Hi, Auntie Amy." She grinned and pushed her blond hair away from her forehead.
"How are you doing today?" I asked her.
"I'm good." She placed one of her small hands on my cheek. "You slept so long!"
"Did I?" I asked in amusement. She nodded vigorously.
"She's right," Ivy said softly. "It's well past 2 PM."
I frowned. "I guess I was just tired."
Victoria and Ivy exchanged another look.
"When was your last period?" Ivy asked.
"One month ago. Why are you asking?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Caroline, baby, come here. I think your father is looking for his little girl." Victoria stepped in, holding her arms out for her niece. Caroline went willingly into her aunt's arms.
"Aunt V, where's Uncle J?" Caroline asked as the two of them walked out of the room.
"He's at work, honey. But he'll be back soon," Victoria said reassuringly.
"Amy," Ivy said softly. "I think that you might be pregnant."
I scoffed. "What?"
"I mean, all the signs are there. Morning sickness, you're sleeping more than usual, late period—"
"I'm stressed right now. My mother just handed me the line which means everything is my responsibility. I'm probably just being affected by that. And besides, my period is irregular anyway." I said, brushing her concern off.
"Then you wouldn't mind taking a test, would you?" She raised an eyebrow.
I glowered at her. "I'm not pregnant!"
"I thought that too, two years ago. But I ended up finding out that I was pregnant with Caroline. If you're so sure you're not pregnant then a test shouldn't be a problem," Ivy said in a calm voice.
"I can't be pregnant," I mumbled. Ian would kill me. He was adamant on being older before settling down, unlike our friends.
I didn't even want to think of his reaction to a possible baby.
Ivy embraced me. "Do you want to go the doctor or take a test here?"
I took a deep break. "Here."
"Okay, I'll run out and get you one." She withdrew and placed a hand on my shoulder. "It's going to be okay." She hurried to the door but stopped when she saw Victoria coming in.
