My eyes are cast down at the water shimmering on the concrete floor, wood shavings mixing into the cold water. The chain gets pulled again, Jonah yelling at him. The tears roll down my cheeks as the horrid man leaves the building, leaving Jonah and I alone, still chained.

"Ivy, I'm so sorry."

I can hear the pain in his voice, I shake my head, trying to stop myself from bursting into a sob.

"Were you?"

I nod, still unable to look at him, my eyes still cast downward.

"It's going to be ok. We will get out of here and I'll kill that fucker for hurting you."

"What's the point?" I murmur sadly. "No man would want me now."

"I do."

I blink out the tears that had been welling in my eyes, looking up at him. His face sad, his eyes flicker between their usual golden brown too black, like he is struggling not to be angry.

"I want you."

I grin and half laugh, happiness found as a few more tears trickle out. He tries to move closer but the chain pulls me up, lifting me off the ground. Frowning, he looks up at the chain and then back at me. He moves again, to my body.

"Wrap your legs around."

I wrap my legs around his waist, holding the chain above his hands, staring into his eyes, now normal again. He kisses my lips softly, enjoying the proximity. He kisses me again, deeper and more forceful.

"So beautiful." he whispers staring into my eyes.

I watch as he grabs both of the chains and tries to yank it down, it doesn't work, the pole won't budge, the chain won't break. His eyes dart around the room, searching for something.

"We have to get out of here."

I close my eyes and try to make contact with my parents, with someone.

"I can't get anyone, can you?"

He closes his eyes, trying in vain to find a vampire in the area. He shakes his head sadly.

"What about your mother, he's gone after Ariella and Lucian, we have to find someone to warn them."

I knew that he could talk to his mother no matter what side of the planet he was on. A perk of being a phoenix vampire.

"I can't... mum is at the edge of her down cycle, she's gone into her deep sleep, un-contactable. Josie and Evie are in the wolf realm still. Jayden is in the shifter realm on holiday." he groans "My sisters, who would know where those two are."

"Godfrey?"

"Yes." he murmurs with a frown as his eyes look around the floor. "Now I wish I had gone in for the upgrade."

I crinkled my face at him, unable to understand his ramblings.

"Every other phoenix just needs to have silence; mum is about to go in to have the same done for her but I kept saying it wasn't necessary." he shrugged "I don't talk to Godfrey much so I didn't think I needed the upgrade."

"Oh."

"Well, there's plenty of water."

I look down at the floor, puddles of water everywhere, like the floor had been washed before we got here.

"I need dirt."

"Plenty of wood shavings in that pile over there, do you think there might be some dirt on the bark?"

"Probably not, but can't hurt to try."

He moves forward, sliding the chain to the closest point, letting me onto the ground.

"Kick some over."

I look around at the ground, feeling the chain move, I turn around and jump a little in shock. Jonah hangs from the catwalk, freeing most of the chain for me to use. I move as close to the saw dust pile as I could reach, stretching my leg out to kick it over. When I finally get it back, he jumps back down and removes his shoes. One foot in each of the piles, the saw dust and the water.

"I'm going to need wind."

"How are you..."

"Blow on me."

"What?" I snort half laughing.

"I'm serious Ivy, I need the four elements, there is no wind in here."

"Fine." I groan.

"No spit thanks."

I cannot help but smile at that cheeky grin. Gently I blow out on his face as he sniggers.

"Stop it!"

"Sorry, keep going."

This time he is more serious, closing his eyes as I gently blow, hoping this will work. It seems like it is, his eyes don't reopen for some time. When they do, he looks like a man on a mission.

"Ok, Godfrey will deal with Ariella and Lucian, he said that they are still safe, so we needn't worry about them. As for us..." he sighs. "I am going to have to do something that is generally not recommended."

"Why?"

"We don't have a lot of time; I would have done it before but the prick wet me." he frowns. "He obviously knows about this ability. All that I ask is that when it happens, you follow me and I will lead you to mid jump. I won't be able to help you if we get into trouble, ok?"

I nod at him.

"Put me in a non-see through bag and take me to the very top floor of mid jump."

"A bag? Jonah what are you talking about?"

"There is only one way that I can get us out of here, Godfrey cannot help us, he has to make sure that Ariella and Lucian are protected. Remember, follow me, then take me to the top floor at mid-jump, not seen by anyone and don't tell anyone of anything that has happened until we get there. Yes?"

I nod, a little worried. He closes his eyes, gripping the cold metal chain, his body starts to smoulder, the clothes begin to burn.

"Oh crap." I whisper.

In all of the years that I have known Jonah, I had never seen him do what he is doing right now. Within seconds his whole body is in flames, the flickering of the licks of fire is quite enthralling, mesmerising. The flames recede as his body disappears into a large pile of ashes on the ground, red embers try to ignite. The chain loosens, falling to the ground with a heavy rattle. I rush to the table, finding the keys to the handcuffs. I rub my wrist after the cuffs hit the ground, sore and bleeding a little. I hear a squawk from behind me and slowly turn around seeing the most gorgeous red and orange bird. His eyes liquid black, the little plume on his head almost like a peacock, very delicate. The tail is long; the feathers have little wisps of fur like feathers. His body is a heavy orange, the top of his wings and tail are the same heavy orange, petering out to a dark yellow. Divine.

"Jonah?" I kneel in front of it.

It ruffles its feathers, flicking off the ashes and squawks at me again. He flaps his wings, trying to take flight.

"Your wings aren't strong enough yet, are they?"

I hold out my arm and he climbs on.

"Damn your heavy." I groan as I get up to search for an exit.
