The interior of the house was beautiful; dark blue walls, polished hardwood floors and a variety of antiques along teak shelves. The kitchen was connected to a spacious lounge room, where I dropped my bag and changed into shorts and a singlet.Ezra picked up the crates which held the felines. He led me down the hall where there were two separate staircases, one leading upstairs, one leading down, we went down, where a heavy metal door with extra locks stood to the left, and a large wooden one to the right. Opening the metal door, we entered a tiled room, about ten metres squared, Ezra grabbed one of many viles from a cabinet on the wall, which also held medical supplies and empty blood bags.
"You'll need to compel the cat first. Think the word paralysis loudly in your head and look into its eyes." He took the tortoise shell from the crate and handed it to me.
Doing as I was told, it went limp. I bit its neck and sucked, the metallic taste slithering down my tongue. The flow slowed down and soon was gone, I licked my lips, the blood dribbling down my chin.
I let myself fall to the ground and Ezra caught me, I felt high, like when I had first started to smoke. My head spinning, off balanced, yet I was able to think more clearly. I breathed deeply and tried to keep the taste in my mouth. Opening my eyes, I saw Ezra holding a knife up to me. "Did you want me to or would you prefer to?"
"I will." I took the knife from him and put it to the palm of my hand. I pressed the knife against my skin and slid it quickly and with force. Blood spattered out, spraying Ezra's grey t-shirt.
"It's okay, you must have nicked an artery." He quickly collected it into the vile and as soon as it was full, I clenched the cut with my other hand. I could feel it begin to seal up.
Ezra put the lid on and placed it in a small case, then took out the tabby.
I compelled it and bit into its neck, almost separating the head from the body. I tried to drink it slowly, Ezra sat patiently beside me until I finished. I breathed deeply, got up, and grabbed the bodies, Ezra motion towards a container and a metal tub, kissing the tops of their heads like he had done to me, I placed the tabby in the tub and the tortoise shell in the container. "Did I do okay?" I held his arm.
"You did great, although you messed up yet another one of my shirts." He smiled before pulling it off and chucking it outside the door. "I'll grab the hose." He went to a cupboard in the corner of the room, pulled out a hose, twisting the nozzle and splashing me 'accidentally'. Once the floor was well rinsed, he filled a bucket and started scrubbing, I pulled off my blood stained top and helped, not worrying about only wearing a bra. "What did you want to do afterwards?" It was now clean, so we dropped the sponges into the bin and I poured the bucket down the drain in the floor, he hosed it off again.
"I think it's shower time, did you want to go first?" He shut the door and led me upstairs. We passed three bedrooms on the way, and I could see a closed door at the end.
We entered the bathroom and it was huge, the shower cubicle was about a metre and a half both ways, reaching up to the ceiling. There was a square block covered in holes on the roof in the middle of the cubicle, which was where the water came from. The ocean blue tiles gave a beautiful glimmer. The bath was about two metres in length. Bubble jets around the bottom and middle, and built in cushioning. The floor was non slip tiling with expensive looking mats, almost rugs, scattered like a messy path. The sink was motion sensor operated, as well as the soap, a face sized section of the mirror was magnified. A small circle on it, in the middle, activated a light that ran around the outside.
"Here." He handed me a thick purple towel. I accepted it and noticed how soft it was, it must have been very expensive. "Your towels are red and purple, mine are blue and black, they live in the cupboard behind you.
"Thanks."
He smiled and was about to leave, when he spun back round toward me. "Do you want to go to dinner tonight?" He'd blurted out quickly.
"I would absolutely love to!" My cheeks were hot as I smiled widely.
He smiled wider and left the room, almost dancing as he left.
I had a quick shower, then hopped into the bath, the bubble jets were pretty easy to figure out. I added some body wash and watched as the foaming bubbles swirled around. The water was just hot, the jets massaged my tensed muscles. I exhaled deeply, like the weight of the world had been lifted from my shoulders, as if I had been holding my breath my whole life, only now releasing it.
"Are you okay in there?" Ezra's voice held concern.
I had blanked out, it felt like I had only been there for five minutes.
The door flung open, Ezra, nearly tripping over himself, ran to the bath and looked at me. "Are you okay?"
I nodded. "Why?"
You've been in here for over an hour, and you didn't respond." He put his hand to his chest and breathed deeply.
"Sorry, I didn't realise how long it has been, I was just so relaxed."
"It's okay, you're alright then?"
"Yes, it's just that everything was happening so quickly, my brain was going into overload. Sorry to worry you."
"Of course, I didn't think about just how scary and crazy all of this is. I'm sorry." He smacked his forehead and acted like he'd done something wrong.
"Don't stress, you're so used to this life, it's all normal for you." I grabbed my towel and stood, quickly wrapping it around me.
He picked me up and carried me out of the bathroom.
"What are you doing?" I asked, my arm around his shoulders for balance.
"I like carrying you around, your so cute and light, I can't resist." He kissed me on the forehead.
"Oh, which room did you want?""The one closest to you."
He smiled, entered the room, sat me on a queen sized bed, with a hand carved head board, the sheets Egyptian cotton, with the night sky printed on them.
He went to leave, but I grabbed his hand. "I just wanted to thank you, for being so worried about me. I...I'm not used to it..." I looked down at his hand in my grasp. The skin smooth, no calluses, no scars, I looked at mine and found they were the same. All my scars were gone, like I had been given a fresh start. He knelt down to me and smiled. "I will always worry for you, no matter how small or insignificant something might seem, I swear I'll always care. Now get ready. I'll come get you in a bit." He kissed my cheek and left, shutting the door behind him.
I dried my hair and left it out, liking the garnet red ringlets that bounced around my head, then put on the black dress I had bought. It was soft and stuck to my body in a complimenting way, one strap holding it up and its hem coming just above my knees. I looked at my face, the scars of my past had all disappeared, freckles barely noticeable on my cheeks. I'd never worn make-up, I couldn't afford to waste the money. I looked in the top draw of my dresser and found lipsticks and eyes shadows. Ezra was so sweet to buy them ready for me. I chose a coffee coloured eyeshadow and a flamenco red lipstick.
Slipping on my black, high heels and heading out the door, I found Ezra in a black slim fit suit and white shirt, with black round toe Oxfords, his hair slicked back. He stood in the doorway waiting for me and I was taken aback by his appearance. He was so regal and well groomed, I felt like I was meeting a celebrity. His mouth hung open as I walked out, his eyes opened wide."Do I look okay?" I had never dressed up before, having never had the reason or clothes, I hadn't even worn a dress since I was fourteen.
"You're the most beautiful woman in the world!" He stated, blinking hard then turning bright red from his comment.
I felt my face burn so badly I thought it might explode. "Thanks." I swallowed the lump in my throat. "You look so handsome, I mean...really nice...like a prince...I mean..." I decided to stop, my mumbling was going nowhere.
He seemed to hold back a chuckle as he offered his arm, I accepted it gladly as I attempted to walk in my new heels, they were quite high with only a thin support, but I managed them pretty well.
