As Near predicted, without Mello's help he was unable to solve the Kira case. He tried his best, despite feeling less motivated without having Mello to race against. But without Mello finding out about the fake rules, there was no reason to even think of clearing Light and Misa's names, and so it was a hopeless fight.
Light still met up with Kiyomi Takada and together they just got crazier with power. They thought they were doing the right thing and couldn't be stopped.
The whole world went to waste and ended when another Kira appeared and deleted it by blowing it up.
