"How long have they been tracking you?" Sehun asked from the driver's seat. He, Chanyeol and Kyungsoo sat in an empty gas station parking lot.
"Ever since I could do this... stuff," Kyungsoo stared at his hands. "You know, force."
Sehun nodded, finally comprehending why this man was so strong. Sehun didn't completely understand how or why this Kyungsoo could do the things he had done on the rooftop earlier, and that made Sehun want answers.
The car was dead silent. Sehun didn't dare look at Kyungsoo, and Kyungsoo kept his gaze straight ahead, as if on the lookout for something... or someone.
Kyungsoo broke the silence with an unexpected apology. "Sorry for the misunderstanding,"
"It's all good," Sehun looked in the rearview mirror at Chanyeol, who was sprawled across the backseat. "Make sure you tell him that,"
Kyungsoo chuckled mysteriously, and Sehun didn't know whether or not he should laugh too or to be afraid. Sitting in the front seat beside a man who nearly tried to kill him earlier was wrong on many levels.
"You can't trust anyone when you're on the run," Kyungsoo explained with the least amount of emotion in his voice. "When the police, the SWAT team... FBI... when everyone is on the hunt for you, it's scary."
Sehun nods, worried that the man beside him could be a criminal with enhanced abilities. Something about Kyungsoo registered something in his brain.
"The worst part is, all this is natural to me." Kyungsoo continues, and looks at his palms for a split second before returning his gaze to the street. "If you were being chased for being you, it would seem unfair, wouldn't it?"
"I guess," Sehun stared at his bruised knuckles. "How long have you had this... ability?"
"I've had mine for almost a year," Kyungsoo explained. "It started out with this flood of strength that kept entering into my body. I don't know how my body could contain the sudden rush of... power. It eventually kept increasing to the point where if I lightly push someone, they'll stumble backwards and leave marks in the ground."
"Damn," Sehun remarked, wondering if it was really true or if what Kyungsoo said was just an excerpt from a novel he recited. "What else can you do?"
"I can... see things," Kyungsoo shrugged, and Sehun began to think he was delusional. "I know it sounds crazy, delusional, as some might put it."
Sehun blinked, wondering if Kyungsoo's use of the word delusional was really him "seeing things" or if it was just a mere coincidence. Sehun didn't like the idea of Kyungsoo seeing inside of his head.
"Several hours ago I had this feeling—I just knew something would happen at your friend's building. I snuck in from the loading area and hid in the washrooms. From there, I overheard part of your conversation in the elevator, and that's how I knew about your airhead joke. I knew I would find another... monster, another person with abilities like me. No offense."
"None taken," Sehun was overwhelmed. Part of him didn't want to buy this explanation, yet another part of him actually believed it. "Do these abilities evolve? Like Pokémon?"
"I can't tell you that, Airhead." Kyungsoo admitted. "You're one of the only other people with abilities I've met. They should come naturally, like they did to me. You have some kind of... levitation ability. Your friend called you an airhead, right? Maybe that's your element. Air."
Sehun's heart skipped a beat at the mention of other people with abilities like him. He longed to do whatever he did on the rooftop again, but at the same time he was terrified. How did this happen? Why did it have to be now instead of some other time? What had he become?
"I think I knocked your friend out pretty badly," Kyungsoo glances at Chanyeol, who was sprawled across the back seat. "Do you think he's awake?"
Sehun turns around, wondering if his friend was even alive. He playfully slaps Chanyeol's arm. "Hey, you awake?"
Chanyeol replies with a hearty cough.
"He's fine," Sehun turns back around, eyeing the rearview mirrors. "Oh no,"
"What is it?" Kyungsoo looks in the mirror, seeing a police car pulling into the gas station. "Oh no is right, we have to go."
Sehun started up the car and stepped on the gas pedal. He cruises carefully in the opposite direction, making it hard for anyone to suspect anything.
"Where am I?" Chanyeol groaned from the back seat. "Who's driving?"
"Shush, we're gonna get caught if you do anything stupid," Sehun checks the mirrors again.
"Me? Stupid?" Chanyeol begins to laugh so hard he starts to wheeze again.
"We're not gonna get caught," Kyungsoo assured. He couldn't get caught, he wouldn't allow it.
"Why are you here?" Chanyeol glared at Kyungsoo. "What, are we your getaway drivers now?"
"I explained everything while you were knocked out," Kyungsoo begins calmly. "Your friend is different."
Chanyeol whined. "How long have I been knocked out?"
"About an hour," Sehun took a sharp left. "You missed a lot, but you're going to be fine,"
"Xiumin is still missing," Chanyeol reminded him. "I'm not going to be okay until we know where he is."
"Where who took who?" Kyungsoo usually kept his mouth shut, but not today. He might actually have some answers.
"A friend," Chanyeol avoided making eye contact with the man in the front seat. There was no way he could trust him after what he did. "People came to ask him questions,"
"—and when we went into the conference room he wasn't there," Sehun finishes.
Chanyeol sighs deeply. He didn't like any of this. How could a Sunday afternoon turn into... nonsense?
"Is your friend cold?" Kyungsoo asks, his abilities kicking in.
The car goes silent. Sehun nods, knowing what Kyungsoo meant.
"Take a right," Kyungsoo instructs, and Sehun obeys.
"I know where your friend is."
