Hannahs POV

It was a magical day. Some would say. But I, didn't really care. And that is Christmas. Sure you get gifts and what not, but it only last for a day and you could've just ended up buying it yourself
eventually. Unless you're a kid I would understand, but teenager? Nah.

I have no one to hang out with, I expect everyone to be off at church or with their families the whole day. Mine? Well they are working. The store didn't close and they wont be home til late evening, so guess I'm stuck being bored

I was walking outside for the past 30 minutes or so, and it is really pretty when there is no people to be seen or any cars or just any noise. I am at this park spot and the trees barely have leaves on them, or just say there is more on the ground then the actual tree. I hear birds chirping and flying, it was just very peaceful

At the corner of my eye, I see a person. A young man sitting on the bench across from mine, but his is facing the other way. Making his back and head turned towards me. I don't like to call myself "risky" but I sure as hell am not scared and shy as most, so I start walking up to this mysterious man.

Once i get close enough, i can tell he is reading a book. I tapped lightly on his shoulders and say

"Excuse me sir? Is this seat taken" I ask

"Nope. You can sit Hannah" he says

I sigh in relief as i sit next to him only to realize

HOW DOES HE KNOW MY NAME?

"Who the hell are you" i exclaim

"The one and only" he says as he lifts his face up from the shadows of his cap

Clay Jenson

"CLAY YOU SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME"

"Well maybe you shouldn't be walking to random strangers" he says smiling

"Oh ha ha ha." I say unamused

"Why aren't you with your family for Christmas?" He asks

"Why aren't you?"

"I asked you first" this boy i swear

"Because my parents are working ... so we are celebrating tonight. You?" I say in defeat

"Same" he says

"How long have you been sitting here?" I ask

"Since this morning" he says

"Wanna go get some food?" I ask

"Hannah silly, there's no places open. It's Christmas, remember? How about we just sit here and talk. Let things out" he says

I give him the weirdest look, like really talk

"Hey! It's a good thing to do, come on" he says tugging at me knee

"Okay" i say

Little did i know, we started talking and never stopped. Therefore saying it was nighttime when got out of our deep convos. He then walked me home worried about my safety and greeted my parents and said goodnight and went off.

It was a boring day, nothing exciting happened, nothing Christmas-y happened. But what I realized is that it doesn't need to be in the Christmas spirit or have something exciting happened to have a day be magical. Spending it with someone you care about is the real gift of it all.

Merry Christmas everyone, Hannah baker out.
