"What do you mean Daddy?" Jack asked.

“Officer Smith, what's wrong?" Chief Morris questioned.

"The RHW broke into the hospital. They took Jane. They've got her..."

No one said anything. My vision was blurred by tears.

"James, I understand this is hard and that you want to help Jane out, but we have to call the FBI," Chief Morris replied.

"No you don't understand!" I yelled. "My wife has been taken, my son has turned evil, I found out that I used to be a leader of an evil society, and innocent lives are in danger!"

How could the Chief understand? He's never been married, never had kids, and really doesn't have anything in common with me. He doesn’t understand what it’s like to have to look after someone, and make sure they survive.

"I'm going back. Nobody try to stop me. I am going to go to my car, get some supplies, and go after Jane. Officer Gianos," I said turning to Edna, "Please take Jack home and watch him."

"But Daddy," Jack whined.

"No buts Jack. It's too dangerous. Stay this time, or else you'll be grounded. Anyone who wants to can come with me. Anyone have any questions?"

"I have one. Are you insane?" Chief Morris asked. "These guys will kill you. Then what'll happen to Jack?"

I didn't know what to say. I stormed off to the car with anger bubbling in me. Why did the chief have to be right? Then I wouldn't have to feel guilty about leaving Jack, maybe forever. But how could I live with myself if Jane died and I didn't even try to help?

I shook my head to clear my thoughts. I had to focus. When I got to the car, I grabbed some water, food, batteries (my flashlight will work now), and some ammo. I made my way back to the cops, tossed Edna the keys to my car, and walked down the stairs back to the RHW base.

None of the cops followed me. I guess no one wanted to help. As I reached the bottom of the stairs, I heard thumping behind me. I turned around and saw Jack falling down the stairs.

"Hi Daddy! I left Edna and locked the door behind me," Jack said with delight when he reached the bottom.

"Jack I told you-"

"There he is!" someone shouted behind me.

I turned around and saw Jimmy, Semaj, and two women. I grabbed Jack, and ran down the opposite hallway. Alarms started to go off all around me. I flew down a flight of stairs, and through a metal door. The room was a dead end. Before I knew it, we were surrounded. There was no way out.

"Nowhere to run now James," Semaj said.

A woman took out a gun and shot me in the leg. I collapsed on the ground. I tried to stand back up, but fell over again, making the pain double.

"Daddy!" Jack screeched.

The pain was unbearable. I knew there was no way I was going to get out of there alive. Jack knelt on the ground, his face level to mine.

"I'm so sorry Jack," my voice came out barely a whisper.

"It's not your fault Daddy," Jack replied with tears in his eyes.

Jimmy started to cackle with glee. I was disgusted by my son. His glee got cut of short by a sound. It sounded like a herd of elephants charging through the hallway. I looked up as the sound came closer and smiled when the "elephants" came into view. The cops were here to help.
