It was a cold, clear evening. Dusk was falling and the moon was already shining over the forbidden forest.

Evangeline was standing in the sixth row, glancing at her watch wondering when the schools would finally arrive to hogwarts.

After a few minutes, dumbledore called out from the back row that beauxbatons was arriving

"Where?" Said many of the students eagerly

"There!" Yelled a boy from Evangeline's year, pointing over the forest

A large contraption was soaring through the deep night sky, making it's way gracefully through the forest

"It's a dragon!" Shrieked a first year, losing her head completely

"Don't be stupid....it's a flying house!" Shouted a boy

His guess was closer, a gigantic black shape skimmed over the treetops of the forbidden forest, and the lights shining from the castle windows hit it, they saw a gigantic, powder blue, horse drawn carriage, the size of a large house, soaring towards them, pulled through the air by a dozen winged horses, all palominos and each the size of an elephant.

The front three rows of students drew backwards as the carriage hurtled even lower, coming in to land at a tremendous speed- then with an almighty crash, the horses hooves, larger than dinner plates hit the ground. A second later, the carriage landed too, bouncing upon it's vast wheels, while the golden horses tossed their enormous heads and rolled large, fiery red eyes.

Evangeline gasped, she certainly didn't expect that entrance.

A boy in pale blue robes jumped down from the carriage, bent forwards, fumbled for a moment with something on the carriage floor and unfolded a set of golden steps then he sprang back respectfully.

Then, a shining, high heeled black shoe emerging from the inside of the carriage, a shoe the size of a child's sled, followed, almost immediately, by the largest woman Evangeline has ever saw in her life. The size of the carriage, and the horses, was immediately explained. A few people gasped.

As she stepped into the light flooding from the entrance hall, she was revealed to have a handsome, olive skinned face, black liquid looking eyes and a rather beaky nose. Her hair was drawn back in a shining knob at the base of her neck. She was dressed from head to foot in black satin, and many magnificent opals gleamed at her throat and on her thick fingers.

Dumbledore started to clap, the students, following his lead, also began to break into an applause.

She smiled and walked towards dumbledore, extending her hand. Dumbledore, who's pretty tall himself, didn't even have to bend to kiss it.

Evangeline didn't pay much attention to dumbledore and the large lady's conversation, she was too busy admiring the beautiful horses' gleaming white coats and their strikingly large wings

The lady, who's name turned out to be madame maxime, waved her hand and signaled her students to get out of the carriage, then a dozen boys and girls in their late teens, emerged from the carriage and stood behind madame maxime, who was waiting impatiently for the next school to arrive, but then took up dumbledore's offer to go warm up in the castle with her students.

Evangeline just stood there, resisting the urge to go to the horses and pet them to death

After a few minutes, a fourth year's voice broke out

"Can you hear something?" He Said suddenly

"The lake!" Yelled lee jordan, a boy in her year who usually sat beside her whenever they had potions together

Evangeline gasped as she saw a giant whirlpool form on the once smooth surface of the water, then what seemed like a long black pole began to rise slowly out of the heart of the whirlpool and a ship began to rise out of the water, gleaming in the moonlight.

When the ship reached the bank, the splash of an anchor was heard and the thud of the plank being lowered onto the bank.

People began to get off the ship, their silhouettes passing the ship's portholes could be seen, but as they drew nearer Evangeline noticed that their coats were really furry and shaggy, obviously prepared for the weather.

They were leaded by a man who was leading them up to the castle, he was wearing a coat of a different sort, sleek and silver like his hair.

Eventually, it was time for dinner and everyone was going into the castle for pudding

All except Evangeline and Helen.
