"I left you for a few days because I know that we haven't exactly... been on good terms." Carly finishes this with a small smile.
"You can say that again." I say under my breath but still loud enough for her to hear me. After not getting up for multiple days, my legs were becoming almost immobile. I had lasted the last few days mostly on pure luck. I miss Finn and more than just because I need him.
His laugh and his smile have have been the only things keeping me sane and now that I'm all alone, I'm not sure what to do with myself. There's a darkness that he's not here to scare away. His arms aren't here to protect me.
"Please Ella, stop trying to be difficult. I'm trying to meet you halfway. Although I can't show you what I've been doing all week, I can show you something else." Carly reaches into her pocket and pulls out a small metal device. It reminds me of Charlie's music box which is sitting comfortably in my pocket. A piece of Charlie and following Finn with the cameras keeps me sane.
"It's a... well lets call it a drainer. Works similarly to how your boyfriend takes people's energy and all that." She nods to screen behind me where Finn is sitting next to an old man in a hospital bed.
"Give it to me." I hold a hand out.
"This is the power button." Carly explains as I click it on. "But don't touch-"
"This?" I ask humorously as I raise my eyebrows. I put my finger to the tip of the machine and relish in the familiar relief of feeling flooding back into my legs.
"How-"
"I know you've heard of it. Knowing me you should've known it was true."
"I guess I should've." Carly sighs and smiles. "What're you doing there?" She asks nodding up to the screen.
"It's Finn but I guess since you've been watching you know that. I'm just checking up on him." I switch angles and fast forward following Finn through the hallways of their second hospital. The first one had more emergencies and this one had has more old and permanent patients.
"You've really got the hang of this." Carly pulls out a chair and sits beside me as I go back to when he was at the first hospital. As much as I hate to admit it, he can't do anything for the old people.
I play the tape when a teenager is rolled into the hospital and I can see the familiar blond hair in the corner of the screen. The boy is screaming and there is blood everywhere. Doctors try to hold him still and keep him quiet but the boy is on a mission.
Finn jumps into action taking short quick strides towards the boy. Finn grabs the boy's arm and I can see his muscles tense as his grip tightens. The boy slowly stops screaming and stares at Finn who now has a hand on his chest and his eyes shut in pain. The boy is quickly carted away to be brought to the healers while Finn is left with all the pain that had the boy screaming in the first place. I guess the doctors know that there is nothing physically wrong with him and therefore there is nothing they can do to help Finn.
"Such a sweetheart, nice catch Ella." Carly comments from her spot on the chair. Looking over she looks completely comfortable, just give her a bag of popcorn and she's set.
My heart goes out to Finn even though I know this was a few days ago. I remember during testing that he had taken some sort of pain from someone and when he walked into the waiting room, he gave small dosages of pain to everyone until he was fine. As bad as it seems, pain is something that makes people selfish. Pain and fear are both powerful things that can sometimes trick a good heart.
But this time Finn surprises me. He pulls out a small bottle from his pocket and takes a few pills before quickly before stumbling down the hallway. I pause the screen and zoom in the bottle trying to read the label.
