The wind blew in my face as I rode my horse to the barn. The sun began to rise in the humid air, the rays catching my eyes.
I flew my leg over the horse and jumped down, almost falling but finding my balance.
I grabbed the old saddle off and hauled it off toward the barn.
Dropping the old saddle, I opened the creaky door.
The smell of hay and horse crap overwhelmed my nose. I held my nose as I put the saddle up.
My three horses: Joe, Sally, and Billy was in their stalls chewing on their hay.
"Hey guys." I say
Nothing
"Fine. I see how it is." I say.
Finally Sally answered with a neigh.
"At least someone is not ignoring me." I said pouring water into their bowls.
"May, what did I say about leaving my horse outside. It could run off." My dad said bringing his horse in.
"Sorry dad, but he is very well trained." I say
"Just don't do it again. In a little while I have to leave with my fellow folks to head up North." He said locking up his horse.
"Again? What about your job?" I say rubbing Joe's back.
"That's what I want to talk to you about." He says pulling his hat down.
He continued," I want you to take over the job for me just this one time."
"What do I get out of it?" I say raising my brow.
"My thankfulness." He says smiling
"Ha ha very funny. Sure I' ll do it." I say sighing. I'm actually kinda happy he chose me for the job. I live in a really small town, so we don't have a lot of man power, but the women do the men jobs to.
He gave me a hug and left me with his knife and his pistol. This isn't the first time I held a weapon. My dad has taught me how to shoot an arrow, throw knives, and shoot using a gun while always making the target. I've gone hunting with him plenty of times.
I opened a stall and pulled my favorite horse out. Billy walked out raising his head up high. Spoiled horse.

I rode out toward town to talk to my father's boss. Mr. Brown was his name. He has white colored and brown hair. He's old and wrinkly with a mad face.
His wife died two years ago from a disease. Darlene was her name.
She was very beautiful and made him smile. But then a couple of outlaws came and shot her leaving Mr.Brown to suffer from his dead wife.
I opened the door of my father's job and saw Ms. Miller, an middle aged woman with black curly hair with a chubby face, sitting behind a desk.
"Hello Ms. Miller" I say stepping inside.
"Hello Ms. Green." She says smiling, looking down at some papers. She's a very busy woman.
"I need to find Mr...." I said before she interrupted me.
"He is in there." She says pointing to a door.
"Thank you." I say going towards the door. I knock and stepped in.
When I got in there I saw Mr. Brown sitting on his office chair typing on the type writer.
"Um... I'm here to fill my father's spot for the job." I say looking at him.
"Yes, I suppose your May, Robert's daughter. I'm surprised he sent his daughter to do the dirty work." He said without looking up.
"I suppose so." I say looking down sadly. The men here still think it's stupid for a girl to do men work, but considering the low number of men... we have no choice.
"Here, sign this." He said sliding a piece of paper toward me.
I signed the paper.
"Come tomorrow around 3 Am. Bring a pistol, a knife, a horse, and anything thing that might suit you. Do not be late." He said
"Yes sir." I say leaving the building quickly.
