"You awake John?"
"Yes." He whispered
"John, how are we going to get home?" I asked tears beginning to rise up
"We will." He said
"No we won't, stop acting like we will." I muttered, heat rising to my cheeks.
The moon shown from the thin cloth that covered over John and I like a tent.
"Maybe we will, maybe we won't. Either way, I still got you." He said and turned his head toward me. His smile made me smile as well.
"Your the first guy I ever came close to like this." I said resting my head on his chest.
"Wow." He said shocked.
" I come from a Christian family." I said
We laid there silent, while the stars stared down at us dancing in the sky.
"I love you May." John said breaking the silence.
A few mintues passed and then I said, "I love you too John." But by then, he was already asleep.
..................................................................................
"May, you awake?" John asked
The sun glared down at me, causing me to shield my eyes with my arm.
"I am now. " I said sitting up.
"Sorry. You ready to go home." He asked
"Yes." I said
My body ached as I stood up and stretched; John gathered the supplies into a bag.
"Do you think the Indians are still looking for us?" I asked John as I climbed onto the back of the camel, John giving me a lift.
"I won't doubt it. Nothing crosses them and gets away with it." He said climbing on to the camel behind me.
"Why don't you doubt it?" I asked as the camel began a fast pace toward who knows where.
"Well, I had conflict with those Indians long ago," He said, " They... they killed my family."
My heart dropped as he said those words.
"I'm...I'm so sorry." I said
"Don't be, it was a long time ago." He said with a tension in his voice probably wanting to drop the subject.
"Ok" I said staring ahead.
After hours of pure hell, a small figure looked as if it was moving toward us. But it was so far away, I couldn't tell.
"John... look." I said my lips parched and throat on fire.
"What?" He asked as he glanced ahead where the sun was burning them, " I don't see anything."
"Right there... the figure that is walking toward us." I said pointing toward the figure that seemed as if it never came closer toward them.
"May... I don't see anything out there, expect... for the hot sun and the sand that gets in my eyes." He said looking worried.
After he said that my heart sped. I couldn't be hallucinating right now...
We walking for hours and hours, still the sun's heat seemed to have never lighten up.
"May... I see a figure behind us." He said.
I turned around and I couldn't believe my eyes... there was a figure coming our way. Maybe it was help. I jumped down from the camel and shouted for help. So did John.
With our hands waving in the air and our voices shouting, I came to realize that we should of kept moving and not stop for help.
The figure wasn't help, it was danger.
I couldn't yell to John to stop before bullets started flying past us.
