Everyone knew, they all knew, all except the person who needed to know it most.

"Arthur? Prince Arthur?" Merlin called, his voice resounding around the prince's chamber.

"Merlin, how many times have we talked about the 'prince' part?" Arthur called back, coming into the servant's field of view. The blond was standing lazily, with his shoulders slouched and his bare chest glistening with sweat.

God, he's so not helpful Merlin thought.

"Arthur, I have something to ask," the sorcerer asked quietly.

"Can it wait till after you've fetched my bath?" the taller man asked.

"U-uh yes, I'll be right back," Merlin stuttered, turning around and running away to get water for Arthur's bath. Once the spoiled prat was done with his bath and fully dressed he turned to Merlin.

"What was it you wanted to ask me earlier?" Merlin was tempted to chicken out, but he needed to do this for both Arthur and his sake.

"My mother has fallen ill and I need to be beside her. Could I be dismissed temporarily to watch over her?"

Lies, lies lies, stop lying.

"Merlin! That is much more important than my bath, next time inform me that your mother is ill. I can get another servant who is just as good as you," Arthur exclaimed.

"Not better at kissing though, I presume," Merlin commented cheekily.

"No, not as good at kissing," the prince smiled, pulling the dark haired boy into a deep kiss.

"I love you, now go watch over your mother." Merlin's smile slipped away and he nodded, giving Arthur a quick hug and saying goodbye.

"Don't say that like it's so final," Arthur said, nudging his servant out the door.

"Goodbye, Arthur Pendragon," with just a bit more finality than the last one had. The second Merlin was down the hall Morgana pushed into her brother's room. The poison of power had not reached her veins yet and she was up to her elbows in Merlin and Arthur's relationship, with no time to be corrupted.

"Did you ask him?!" she asked her brother, practically jumping with excitement.

"No... he asked to go away indefinitely to help his mother. She's ill," Arthur mumbled, falling face forward onto his bed.

"Arthur!" Morgana screamed, "You have to go after him! You two have been in love for years! Even father knows how much you love him! He made an exception to sorcery for you!"

"Morgana, stop bouncing. Arthur, this is true. I'm giving you the chance to love a sorcerer and marry him as well as both of you become the kings of Camelot. That's four exceptions. One for allowing Merlin to live, allowing you to love a man, allowing him to love a man, and allowing two kings to the throne," Uther smiled from behind his daughter, "I might just reconsider all of them if you don't ask him to marry you soon." Someone knocked on the door and Arthur called it open. Gauis opened the door and quickly said, "Arthur, Merlin's mother is not ill, he thinks you and him would be unfit and he would be unfit to be a prince." The door closed shortly after that and then reopened as Arthur ran through the castle, pushing people out of the way, cloth and food hitting the ground at the same time that he called a quick, "I'm sorry!" No one said a word. Everyone knew that Arthur was meant to ask Merlin to marry him today. It was supposed to signify the bond between Camelot and sorcery as well as true love.

"Merlin!" Arthur called, falling through the door to the stables, but Merlin's horse was gone. Without a second thought he saddled up his horse, cantering out of the castle walls, through the lower town and into the forest.

"Merlin!" Arthur yelled. His voice was almost hoarse by then. It'd been hours with no sign of Merlin and Arthur was beginning to fear for his boyfriend.

"Merlin!" he sighed one last time, almost ready to turn around and ride back to Camelot, his horse certainly was ready, when Merlin's steed catered from the bend in the path.

"Scorpio, what is it?" Arthur called, following the spooked horse back to where it came from. Merlin was sitting on the edge of the path, his forehead had a drag or blood on it and he looked half dead.

"Merlin!" The boy gave a weak cough and stuttered out, "A-Ar-Arthur." He coughed again and his eyes shut

"Merlin!" Arthur yelled again, pulling his lover up onto his saddle, Merlin's head on his shoulder. Scorpio cantered behind the quick prince's horse. They reached Camelot just before sundown and Arthur carried Merlin to Gauis. The old man dropped ever thing and spent several hours patching Merlin up. It was just before dawn when Merlin's eyes opened. Arthur was crying by his bed, his strong hands holding pale skinny ones.

"A-Arthur?" the sorcerer asked. Blue eyes met blue and Arthur let out a happy sound.

"Oh my gods, I love you," he said, kissing Merlin on the lips with so much ove that Merlin could'nt possible process it.

"I love you too," the dark haired boy said, slumping back onto the pillows.

"Don't say it like it's so final..." Arthur said with a strangled whimper. Instead of saying anything the warlock pulled the prince onto his bed and they watched the sun rise together, their fingers intertwined. Just hours later Arthur asked Merlin to marry him, which the simple answer to was yes, the difficult one being Merlin's.

Six months later the first pair of prince were announced as husband and husband, who would weild both sword and magic, which changed Camelot forever.
