Chapter 28: EPILOGUE
I was being filmed during the flag celebration. The presidents watch with pride as I return back down with the wings. Flying over the crowd to stop on another roof.
On the floor, I am congratulated and admired by lots.
"You should keep this." Olden gives me Koppe's charm bracelet of squirrel fur. It was from the first squirrel he ever caught and I helped him made the bracelet. When I hold it, years of wonderful memories flash in my head. The lake, the play-wrestling, the squirrel, the time we fell into a mud pond, when me and him would hide inside a big hole inside a wide tree.
"Thank you." I tell him.

The next weeks turned to months. Life is good. No more restrictions, no rules, no killings. Free. Many people were taught how to hunt for squirrels and some rabbits. How to fish and find herbs for food or remedies. But most of the food is grown. A lot of gardens are sprouting faster than ever. At one point we were so food wealthy we had to donate to other cities.
Nine months. The baby. Joyse and Olden's baby is a boy, who we decided to name Ramsey, after my dad. If it were a girl it would've been Joyse.
After momma Joyse was taken and cared at the hospital, we all rushed for the big moment. Baby Ramsey had Joyse's eyes and Olden's hair and nose. I carried him for a while and then Derlie and mother. The nurse who assisted in the birth was the same lady from Dertus. Her name is Carmen and she is great with small humans. Ramsey has his own room in Olden and Joyse's apartment.
Me and Amelia are now an item and Penelope approved me as the 'Perfect Man', so that is good.
Derlie is in medical instruction and looks up to Carmen. Without the war and fights, the doctors finally get a break for once. The training range has been destroyed and forgotten. The wall surrounding Septimus was brought down as well. Too many changes too fast, but I love it.
Koppe was buried in the Septimus cemetery where I go visit him and all the soldiers frequently.
More schools and shops are being built and I even got a job in a clothing shop. President Sterling and Ursula are doing excellent in the reconstruction. They passed a law where air and water travel were now permitted. I returned the earpiece to Sterling, which made me laugh for a bit.
All the children were taught this song that was written by my grandfather when he was a kid. The song echoes loudly whenever I pass by the school. And I follow along.
"The world is your room.
Look at the moon.
Where the flowers bloom.
Open your palms,
Always stay calm,
They're only just bombs.
Deep in the meadow,
There's a nice fellow
Walk with him at dawn,
To find the broken spawn.
So just stay calm,
They're only just bombs."
And I understood all of it the first time.
