“Meeting at 5. See you.”

This is always how Terrence called for Editorial board meetings, short, simple and sweet? It’s funny how his five words can bring some people inside a room with two computers.

Oh my God, another afternoon with Terrence. I pushed away the thought, I should start focusing on copyreading another article made by a freshman but Terrence’s face keeps on popping on my mind.

Terrence is my Editor-In-Chief, to cut it short, he’s my boss and I, Macy is the Associate Editor-In-Chief. Adding “associate” sounds grand but not so. Most of the work load in The Wolf’s Pen (formerly Luna East Editorial) belongs to the highest positions, mine and Terrence’s. But since Terrence is a senior (his always excuse), some or should I say most of his workload is being passed to me.

I almost forgot I was at the cafeteria because of the article. I got back to my senses when Lisa shook my arm.

“Hey!”

I blinked.

“What?”

“You’re spacing out again.”

“I’m stressed.” I answered, avoiding Lisa’s eyes. She stared at the bond paper with the red marks I just made.

“Bad writing, huh?” I nodded.

“Not even worth publishing,”

“The piece is too wordy, adjectives are too flowery… Terrence won’t approve this.” I added.

“Of course, he won’t.” Esther commented, after chewing her steak.

“Dear, can you eat your lunch. I might die out of worry.” said Lisa. She’s trying to be sweet and I don’t want her to blabber like a mom so I kept the paper away and started my lunch.

Lunch is always done with my trio, consists of The Wolf’s Pen Associate Editor-In-Chief(me), one of the photojournalist(Lisa) and the layout artist (Esther). Terrence called us the trio since we’re friends and classmates at the same time.

Lisa has announced to the trio that he likes Terrence. And the only reason she joined The Wolf’s Pen as photojournalist is basically Terrence. Esther stared at me when Lisa started saying how she already missed Terrence. She knew I like Terrence secretly and we both keep silent when Lisa’s on her babble about how handsome and awesome Terrence is.

Although Lisa’s one of my best friends, Lisa has a way of slipping secrets from her mouth, unconsciously. Telling Lisa that I like the boy too is the last thing in my mind for she can’t keep secrets. And, as the universal rules for BFFs, you can’t like the boy your best friend likes. I am living by the rule, better than anyone else.

I have to be in class for four (boring) hours before I get to work with Terrence and the whole editorial team again. The thought of seeing him keeps me nervous, excited and surprisingly giddy at the same time. For the last two years of stay in Luna East, it was the best feeling so far.

When I went home (late as usual), I was surprised seeing my mom on the sofa, sitting comfortably in her night gown with her silky bathrobe covering her legs.

“It’s late,” she said, staring at me from head-to-toe. I didn’t expect her to be home this early at 8:34 PM.

“Editorial work,” I answered. She sighed and eyed on our recently bought 32 inch LED TV, a product of my her hard work as the HR Supervisor for a big company.

“Don’t you get tired with that? Most kids in Luna East are into arts while you…”

I answered with a tired sigh.
