“Macy! You have visitors!”
I woke up with my mom’s shouting. Anyway, I always do. It was 9:34 in the morning. I don’t remember what time I drifted to sleep last night.
“BFF emergency!” she added. That brought me to my senses. I went out of my room, a little bit unwilling and saw Lisa and Esther on the living room.
“What the?”
“BFF emergency, Lisa brokenhearted.” Esther stood up. Lisa looked tired and dried, like life was sucked out of her.
“So this is how you want me to spend my Saturday morning?” I asked them, sarcasm intended. Esther nodded and Lisa shrugged. The look on Lisa’s face makes it clear that it’s an BFF emergency. What is it now? Her parents breaking up again?
“Macy, please sacrifice your weekend sleep for this.” Lisa requested. Only now I noticed that her eyes are swollen.
“Uhmmm, girls. I have friends that will arrive soon. Can you stay in your room?”
I nodded to my mom’s request.
“Okay, girls. Go.”
Once I closed the door, I said “Spill it!”
The trio sat in a circle, Lisa took some good amount of air before she spoke.
“Terrence broke up with me.”
Esther and I exchanged looks.
“I’m sorry, dear.” I said. I can feel my jaw drop.
“I know, I just feel stupid and…”
She started crying. Esther and I looked at each other again. This could go on for like forever.
“Did you know what happened last Friday?” I asked Esther. I told them the story about how I tasted Terrence’s wrath directly. This is not the best time but I’m dying to tell the story.
“Tsk tsk tsk. He’s really a monster!” Lisa said with remorse, tears still on her cheeks. I thought she won’t listen because she’s on drama queen mode.
“Then why girls like you keep on liking him?” Esther asked the both of us but she eyed me. I avoided her stare.
“Esther, he is beauty and brains. He’s perfect that’s why he’s a monster.” Lisa answered matter-of-factly.
“Beautiful is not the word for guys. Nor handsome, he’s beyond handsome.”
Lisa and Esther turned their heads to me in unison. I unconsciously covered my mouth after speaking. I totally slipped.
“Anyway, back to my story. I didn’t know Terrence was a real monster.” I said, trying to cover up what I didn’t mean to admit.
“Two royalties fighting for a slave, quite a story dear.” Esther said with a mocking tone yet I saw the tinge of concern on her eyes.
“I know and I’ll be dead on Monday. I don’t know how I will face them both.”
“Me too.” Lisa interrupted.
“Lisa, are you alright? You can always cry in front of us.” I reminded her.
“Macy, you don’t need to pretend you don’t like him anymore. I know and I’m sorry I dated him.”
“Are you sorry for me or for yourself?”
“For myself actually, slightly about you.”
I smiled, she’ll be fine.
Esther sighed and rolled her eyes. “Why do you always have girl issues?”
“I sort of expected it will end that way.” Lisa said, ignoring Esther’s question.
