Chapter 6
Over the past few weeks, I have really gotten to know Aaron much better and he is a really nice guy. I’m not too sure what we are but I know that I am too scared to admit that we may have moved onto the ‘friends’ stage. I mean, he has already come over to my house once. My mum was pretty excited once I had told her about Aaron and immediately invited him to lunch to watch the Queens Diamond Jubilee on the television. Once Aaron had mentioned that he was also a big fan of the Royal Family just like my mum, she instantly took a liking to him and started chatting away about the royals, while I had to endure eight hours of watching the queen on the television and listening to mum and Aaron go on and on about her. Not that I had anything against the queen; it was just that I didn’t exactly want to watch her on my screen for eight hours straight whereas I could have been catching up with my television. Although, I did like to see what everyone was wearing for the special occasion.
All in all, it was a pretty good day and that was what scared me the most. This is as close as I had ever gotten to any person. Any closer and I usually make up some excuse to never see them again. But this felt different for some reason. It wasn’t like I was doing anything wrong, was I? It’s not like I would accidently blurt out the secret, I am usually careful. There is one part of me that wishes to be good friends with Aaron and be normal around him and to show him the real me. But my spy life comes first and that is what is important to me.
Sitting in registration class, waiting for Miss Ricci to enter, we just end up talking about our weekend. Miss Ricci is usually here by now but today she seemed to be running late.
After a couple of minutes, she finally arrived carrying a big stack of paper. Her hair was dishevelled and I couldn’t see her face because of the high stack of papers covering her face. She slowly made her way to her desk and clumsily dropped the papers on the desk, which she probably did not care about seeing as some papers have now scattered away from the pile and flew onto the desk which she did not take any notice of. They looked like they were going to be used for her next class.
She took a deep breath as to calm herself down, she must have had a hectic morning if she was arriving late to class; and as usual there was no smile on her face, just a scowl. Although, it looked scowlier, if that was even a word.
“Sorry I’m late class” she said in a monotone voice which sounded as if she really was not that sorry. She made her way to her chair behind her desk and slumped down, leant forward and massaged her temples. She must have had a really stressful morning, as our mornings never usually start like this. I looked at Aaron confused and he replied back with a shrug of his shoulders, also mirroring my confusion. It seemed as if everyone else was confused as everyone was looking around, puzzled because we all knew that she is usually well organised and is never late.
Miss Ricci looks in our direction and her scowl intensifies as if to say that it was my fault for her stressful morning, before looking back to the class and explaining why she was late with an exasperated sigh. “I had an unexpected staff meeting to attend to this morning and then while on my way here my car broke down and then once I eventually got here I was trying to get some work photocopied and the photocopier broke and...” she said in one breath and then gave another exasperated sigh as if she had, had enough. “Never mind” she sighed.
Wow, that was a pretty stressful morning, her day was not really was not getting off to a great start. I don’t think that she should have any more bad luck because as the saying goes ‘bad luck comes in threes’.
“Anyway” Miss Ricci continued, “Principle Daniels has decided to take all the seniors and the year below them – which is your year- to a camping trip for the weekend” she said in the same monotonous voice. Gee, she was really excited about this, I could tell. As soon as this was said, there were murmurs of excitement all around the classroom.
