Chapter 11
I woke up with a huge stretch and the biggest grin on my face. I had a feeling that today was going to turn out great and it already was as the sun was shining brightly, the birds were chirping and I didn’t care that my hair probably looked like a mess or that I may have morning breath. I had the best possible sleep ever, and it couldn’t get any better than this.
I turned my head to see no one beside me. Maybe Sasha had already woken up. I poked my head out of the tent to see almost everyone already awake and halfway through their breakfast. I scurried back into the tent to see that the time was 11.30 am. We were supposed to get up at around nine o’clock to get ready for the activities at 12 o’clock. No wonder I felt like I had a good night sleep- I had slept in.
I quickly got dressed, although it was kind of difficult to do in the rather small tent; having problems on the way like putting my jumper on the wrong way. I got out and made my way to Sasha who was clearing up her breakfast.
“Why didn’t you wake me up?” I asked her, annoyance clear in my voice.
“Oh, trust me, I did, but you wouldn’t get up. I tried shaking you and calling out your name. I even got my cell phone and put the music up to its loudest and put it right beside your ear and you still wouldn’t get up. So I gave up in the end”.
“Oh” was all that I could manage to say. I must have been really tired not to be able to hear any of that.
“Well, you better hurry up and have some breakfast; you only have ten minutes left until we have to go on our hiking trip”
“Hiking trip?” I questioned, knowing nothing about this hiking trip but Sasha just ignored the question and pushed me towards where the breakfast was.
I settled on having a slice of toast since I didn’t have much time to eat anything else. Luckily, everything was still packed in my bag so I didn’t have to organise anything for this supposed hiking trip.
Once I was done, I figured I had a few minutes to spare to go to a quick toilet trip. I could see Aaron walking towards me and decided to ask him if he knew where the toilets were.
“Hey Aaron” I say groggily, as he approached me. Him looking fresh and wide awake whereas I probably looked the opposite.
“Good morning Patricia” he said rather excitedly. How could someone be so awake and excited at this time in the morning? “I didn’t see you at breakfast earlier on”
“Yeah, I kind of slept in” I admitted rather sheepishly. “Anyway, where are the toilets around here?” I asked him, deciding not to waste any time in idle chat.
He just laughed, as if he was in on some sort of joke that I didn’t know of; I couldn’t quite understand what was so funny about that question. He pointed to the direction of the woods. I looked where he was pointing but couldn’t see anything. He must have noticed my confused expression as he burst out laughing again.
“That” he motioned his hand to the whole forest “is your toilet”
I gave him and incredulous look and laughed. “That’s a good joke Aaron”. When I turned to see Aaron not laughing but instead with a serious expression plastered on his face, I immediately stopped laughing.
“You are joking, right Aaron?” when he didn’t reply back, I looked back to the woods with my face scrunched up in disgust. “Ewww, that’s gross. There’s no way I’m going to pee in the woods. That’s disgusting”
I could see Aaron trying not to crack a smile and when he couldn’t hold it in any longer he burst out laughing. “I’m kidding. The toilets are that way” he said in-between laughs and pointed to the building behind us.
