The Other Way Around

"I wish she could see the pain she causes me."

"I'm going out!" Was the last thing Kendall heard as she flinched due to the slamming of the door. Her shoulders slumped and her arms dropped to her sides, leaving the knife to clatter to the ground in an ear-piercing noise.

Why did she leave? She told Y/N she prepared dinner for them and now she ditched Kendall, and that will certainly not be the last time, as the last months have proved.

Moving like a robot she numbly put away all the ingredients and tossed the unfinished food into the trash. The world seemed so colorful a few seconds ago, the excitement seeped through her eyes and painted the apartment like fireworks on the fourth of July. Everyone could feel the spirit, the aura of happiness and everyone could see it; except Y/N.

Kendall was broken, hopelessly wishing that her best friend could have at least acknowledged the effort Kendall put into tonight but she just shrugged it off and left to party with her other friends and her new boyfriend. Well, Kendall assumed it was him, after all Y/N never told her anything anymore, left her in the dark even when Kendall just needed a little attention from the person she loved most, maybe a bit of advice regarding her rising career and everything but Y/N had to deal with problems of her own. She was the more successful of the two anyway.

What hurt the most was Y/N rudely rejecting or laughing off Kendall's advances, as romantic and gentle they might be. Kendall was persistent, hard-working and she knew she could get anything she wanted if she was just stubborn and determined enough.

Kendall was fine with being rejected, well as fine as you could be when your best friend is laughing at you while you are confessing your feelings.
She never took her seriously.
Saying you don't feel the same is fine, but invalidating the other's feeling and shrugging it off like a bad joke fucking hurts.

Shaking off the cold, gnawing feeling that crept up her spine and threatened to infest the young girl's mind she trotted to the bedroom and fell on the bed heavily sighing and screaming her pain into the pillows.

Her life would have been perfect; if she hadn't fallen in love with her best friend.

"Love, why have you been avoiding me lately?" The model was cornered, her other friends gone to get drinks or be the life of the party in the middle of the dance floor. And her friend was flirting with the DJ.

Y/N's strong and determined gaze fell upon the slightly anxious woman. The floor seemed to rumble with the heavy bass of the music and it was too dark for her to spot the shiver in Kendall's hands as said girl put her glass full of liquid onto the table. The booth was in the far corner of the club, shaped like a half-moon with maroon, luxurious leather seats; they were seated at the VIP-Booth of the VIP-Section. If that made any sense.

It was secluded and on higher ground, where you could monitor every single move in this club. The neon bar with the hot bartenders pouring out drinks for the people who stumbled across the dance floor to get even more intoxicated; and the quiet observers, looking for prey and someone to spend the night with. It was fun looking at strangers while trying to solve the puzzle, assuming their motives, their strengths, weaknesses and their overall personalities.

What can you say about a man with a mustache and eyes like a predator? A creep, she figured. Although she didn't care because she maintained a distance to them.

That is why Y/N invading her personal space is so dangerous and frightening to her. She was always on top of her things, she knew what she should do, she was clever. Before she'd interact with a person, she managed to sort  them into a specific category.
She  would anticipate moves, predict behavior and that with a single glance; except for her.
It helped her adapt to new and unknown situations, helped her to survive in this paper town.
