Do you believe in magic? Or werewolves? How about immorality? No, of course not. Everyone dies at one point, right? One life and it's over. Even if we were immortal, we'd remember every moment.
Everyone is the same. I mean, yes, we are all different, but none of us are aliens in disguise. So, in that sense, we are one. We all have our talents, but no random superpowers hidden among us. At least that's what I thought until the 3rd period on Friday, April 13th, 2017.
It was getting close to the end of my Jr. year of high school. To be honest, the day was perfect. So perfect that I didn't even have bed head. At least it was perfect to me. It was pouring and in my opinion, you can't beat that.
"Willow, you better hurry up or you're taking the bus!" My twin brother Noah called from down the stairs. His harsh and annoyed voice startled me as I finished the little make up I decided to put on.
When we were just 13, we made a deal that in high school we would help each other no matter what. Of course, that didn't include cheating or anything like that. Thankfully, because he would have made me do all of his homework.
It was hard to believe that we were related at all. The only way you could tell we were twins was the same color of brunette hair and dark brown eyes. I always wondered why he got the height and good looks while I just sat there, looking like an ugly midget.
"I'll be there in a minute, just don't leave without me!" I called back to him, thinking he was still downstairs.
"I'm right here, you dork. No need to yell," he said leaning against the frame of my bedroom door.
"I thought you were downstairs," I said grabbing my backpack.
"I have legs and I know how to use them," he said sarcastically. Although we constantly tease each other, Noah and I were really close. He knew everything about me, and I knew everything about him.
Well, except about my major crush on his best friend, Trevor. Noah's also very protective so he would probably scare Trevor away, even if he did know who I was. My brother is so protective that he even requested to have the same schedule as me at school.
I know why he is though. Our parents are workaholics and whenever they are home, my dad drinks away the stress and gets a little abusive. My mom is always too scared to stand up for us. It gets in the way sometimes, but in reality, I like that Noah is so worried about me.
"Are you ready for your game tonight?" I asked my brother as we walked into Ridge Wood High School.
"Are you serious? I was born ready," he said. He may not admit it, but he was really nervous. I could tell by the way he held the straps of his backpack a lot tighter than usual. I'd be nervous too if I were playing. He was star quarterback, so that didn't help. I know what you're thinking and no, I'm not the captain of the cheerleaders. I'll leave that job to the most annoying girl in school, Brittney. She isn't just annoying, but she's your stereotypical cheerleader, plain snobby. I hated that girls guts.
"Hey, dude! You ready for tonight?" Trevor said fist bumping Noah.
"You know it!" My brother answered back. As usual, they pretended like I wasn't there. A part of me wondered if Trevor really new who I was and just chose to ignore me. I don't know which I preferred. When we were younger, the three of us used to play all the time with each other, but eventually, we drifted apart a bit. Maybe he just didn't remember that.
I couldn't help but listen in on their conversation while we walked to our lockers. The way Trevor talked made me want to melt. Okay, that sounded weird, but you get what I'm saying. He had a manly, but velvety voice. And when he talked about football, he got very passionate about it.
The rest of my morning was pretty normal. I met up with my best friend Carroll before the bell rang. Like always, we caught each other up on anything special that happened the night before.
"Wait, so Daniel actually offered to help you study for finals?" I exclaimed.
"Calm down. I don't want the whole school knowing. Plus, we don't start until next week, so there's no use in getting excited now," she whispered, playing with her long, blonde hair.
The bell for first period interrupted our conversation before I could respond. First period, science, was just as boring as usual. Although, it was pretty funny watching my brother struggle with the worksheets we did. That was the one class he actually sucked at. He was good at all the others.
Second period, reading, was just as bad. It was my best subject, which isn't surprising since I love to read. I wasn't really paying attention to what the teacher was saying, just to the rain that was now sounding like bullets on the metal roof.
Is it weird that I enjoy storms so much? It's almost like they're my friends. In fact, when I was little, I thought I could control storms. I had a good reason though. Whenever I wanted it to rain, even if there wasn't a single cloud in the sky, a storm would show up. It would even come down just as hard as I wanted it to. I kinda gave up on that idea after a while, though.
"Hey, pay attention or else you'll fail this class and you know what Mom and Dad would do if that happened," Noah whispered as leaned over from his desk. This was the only class he actually sat by me in. It was probably so I could help him, although I don't know why he would need it.
His words hung in the air as I kept staring out the window. It took him almost pushing me out of my seat for me to snap out of my daze. Mrs. Roberson gave us a glare while Trevor tried not to laugh at the scene.
Great! The one time he notices me I'm falling.
I decided that Noah was right and started to listen to the teacher. Just as boring as usual but I was prepared for that. What I wasn't prepared for was what would happen in 3rd period.
