Jess had agreed to take the waiter job and he would start work immediately, which was in precisely 42 minutes. The bar opened at 8 but the actual rush hour started around 10. There weren't a lot of quiet days here because even on weekdays, we'd have lonely annoyed office workers who'd come for drinks in their suits and ties. I was running errands and buying home supplies at the supermarket, this has got to be the most boring thing ever. Opening the notes tab in my phone, I typed it in my "random thoughts for my book" note.

Hero hates grocery shopping, why do men need an insane amount of shaving equipment? Hero should run into someone problematic to make it less boring.

I finished typing my note while walking and ended up in front of the frozen goods aisle. Picking up a big tub of Belgian Chocolate ice cream, I added it to my cart and my shopping trip remained uneventful. I guess the hero of my life is too boring indeed.

Luna came around when I dropped my bags on the kitchen counter, "What's all this shopping?"

"I needed some shaving cream, then I saw other things I liked. Picked up some fruit and ice cream, not much."

She nodded at me and I said, "Lunes, can you keep it all in the fridge? I'm going to grab Jess and run. Is he in the room?"

"Yeah he's there. I think he's getting ready. Taking this very seriously. Don't worry, your ice cream won't melt. I'm at it." She assured me.

It was so easy to say these things to her, I wouldn't dare ask Hayley too put away groceries, she'd have scolded me. I walked into our room thinking of Hayley and grabbed Jess from in front of the mirror, "You look fine, man. We're late."

He ran his hand through his hair and chuckled nervously, "Yeah yeah. Let's do this."

Jess wore a crisp white shirt tucked in black jeans, he'd made an effort to have a good first impression. It's not like being a waiter was the most glamorous job but it would help him pay the bills till then. We wouldn't want to be late on the first day, so instead of walking, we called an Uber.

Once we were in the cab, I asked Jess, "You nervous?"

"Yeah man. I am. I've never not worked at the store, this is crazy," he sighed.

"It will be okay, you're good with people. I'm sure you'll be fine. I'll be behind the bar, you'll love Sarah. She's the sweetest, head waitress and all, practically the nicest person I've ever met." I tried to reassure him.
