-Kate's P.O.V-
Earlier that evening when we ran into the woods, Bre and I had gotten separated as we tried to hide. I no longer heard the voice of the man who had murdered our families, I guess that meant the coast was clear. My head throbbed and my throat ached. Besides the rain pouring down on me, I hadn't had access to water in hours. As I walked calling out for the others I came a crossed what looked to be a large pond. The water was tinted but clear enough I could see the bottom.

"I can't believe I'm doing this" I said aloud. Calmly I crouched down, and cupped my hands and dipped them slowly into the icy water.

Again I did this, only this time looking at my reflection staring back at me. Small ripples appeared every time a rain drop connected with the pond, blurring my image. Right above my head was the full moon's reflection as well. I craned my head just far enough to look at the real thing. My eyes widened as I stared upward.

Eventually a rustling near the water's edge broke my focus. Before me was a young fawn getting her share of the thirst quenching water. I stood still watching the young deer prance around in the grassy area.

Suddenly an ear shattering scream burst from the woods, moments later a large mountain lion pounced from the shadows, and onto the helpless fawn. My blood turned to ice. I watched in fear as the ferocious beast ripped into the poor, unsuspecting fawn, right in front of me.

I stumbled back, falling into a nearby bush at the sight of the blood, gushing from the remains. The cat heard this and crouched low to the ground, staring in my direction. Again I froze, but it wasn't enough. The large cat pounced landing directly on top of me, sinking its claws into my flesh. Pain shot through my body.

I clawed and punched frantically over and over again at the monster, until eventually it's grip loosened, faintly. With the rain covering the cat's coat it became slippery and hard to grab onto. Regaining courage, I kicked it several times in the stomach, until we eventually rolled into the icy waters. A bolt of pain struck my leg as it hit the water. The animal screamed once more as I grabbed it and plunged it deep into the pond.

Finally free of the animals grasp I swam until I reached a small island in the center of the large pond. I drug myself onto the grassy surface and drew my leg in close to examine the gash. Slowly I felt blood drip dramatically down my leg and onto the grass I was resting on. My leg stung and the sight of blood made me want to puke. Looking down at the gash I saw an object lodged beneath my skin. Looking away I reached down to pull it out. Small screams formed in my throat and slipped through my lips.

When I finally ripped it from my wound I realized it was a nail belonging the the mountain lions huge claws. Swaying, Black began to fill my vision until eventually, it covered completely, sending me unconscious.
