They chose a rock-edged, shady area for the volleyball game. Two far-leaning branches that nearly touched each other would serve as a net, and according to Sam, they were even nearly the right height. When news of the game reached him, the doctor, he was as excited as any of the children. He insisted on joining a team, and he introduced them to Sarah Jane, who was happy to meet them, and shared a knowing look with the doctor. As for the children, they were curious, but happy enough when she agreed to lead the second team, which was chosen at random (or that's what the doctor said)
On team Doctor, as they called it, were Sherlock, Molly, Rose,Sam and Rory
On team Sarah were John, Jess, Cas, and Amelia.
The game started off as a hilarious, full-of-mistakes learning process. Only a few of the group had played games of volleyball, so they were put in charge of helping those who hadn't. But they didn't let inexperience hold them back, and were busy trying to help the others set high, receive without sending the ball into the trees(not that there were any grudges held) and for some, to serve or spike. John turned out to be a surprisingly successful spiker, because of how high he managed to jump despite Sherlock having said he was the short one. Sam and Sarah Jane both played as solid setters and reliable teammates, whereas the best setter on The Doctor's team was Sherlock.Rory was an un-boasting, but helpful player, and like Rose and Jess, had been one of the people who had played games at school before. Together Rose and Jess were keeping the ball up in the back, but Molly came into her own as a libero* and it was hard to predict her and Rory's next move. Castiel had quite a strong serve, despite being unsure of the game. Amelia also had a strong spike when she managed to time it right, and The Doctor was clumsily graceful, celebrating when his team was successful by cheering loudly with his fists in the air.
As the game progressed and people were getting used to the rules, it became livelier and more competitive, with shouts of"Pass to me!"
"That's not how you set!"
"Not again!"
"I meant it to go that way..."
"That wasn't out!" ("It was!")
"I'm sorry! I wasn't aiming for your face..."
"SOMEBODY GET IT...too late"
"No cheating!"
"I prefer football"
"NO"
"Come on...yes....Agh! No!"
"Come on.Let's score this point!"
"YYYEES"A game was apparently what they needed. Some quiet time to reflect had done them good, but the sport helped them release the energy and stress they had built up, and take their mind off things, not to mention they had made friends here and that meant they wouldn't have to keep things bottled up. They had become a team.
No one really declared a score, since counting had been forgotten about in the excitement, but the doctor said they could both win. When they returned to the TARDIS, out of breath, red faced, and only now starting to think about home, it was getting darker. Although they had started to smile and talk like any other children, they couldn't forget what they had been through overnight, but for now... it was almost as if today had been a normal day and yesterday was a distant memory. Today they could all be normal.Hello lovely readers! Happy 2018.
I know this is quite a rushed and short chapter, but now that it's the holidays I finally had enough time to remember my story and decided to post this. It's short because I split a chapter, I felt like they should be separate so hopefully you had fun reading this. Finally some relaxation for the characters, right? (Sorry not sorry)
If you're wondering, yes I do play volleyball so I choose to put it in:) One of my resolutions is to finish this for you guys, so I will be working on it, but I'm approaching the busiest part of the year, so in terms of the next chapter, I can't be sure when it will be published.
See you then and thank you for reading! As always, constructive criticism is appreciated if you want, and so are votes, comments and follows:)
