It was the middle of the night, going by earth time. Everybody was asleep, as they should be. But Keith wasn't exactly sleeping. He was reliving a painful memory through a nightmare, as he often did. It was mostly a blur, but he saw the flash of silver and drops of red. His body moved by itself, and people ran. Then there was a red and blue flash, then the police showed up. Next thing he knew, he was sat all alone. It was hard without Shiro there, but he fought through it. He heard voices telling him nasty things. They wouldn't go away and it felt like they stayed for days. They said awful things that made Keith just want to fade away into nothing. Then he woke up, clamping a hand over his mouth to stop him from screaming.
Keith tried to calm himself, but it was difficult. However, when he was about to fall asleep, the alarms started blaring. "Just my luck." He mumbled grumpily before jumping out of his bed and getting his armour on, then sprinting for his lion. Soon, everybody had done the same and were gathered in front of a few galra ships. It was Shiro's tired, weary voice that rang through the comms first. "Okay, team. We have to protect the castle. You know the drill." Everybody was concerned at Shiro's tone of voice. Little did they know he'd been having nightmares of his own. Keith sighed heavily and spoke in an almost bored tone. "Yeah, right." Hunk grew even more worried at that, and therefore was the first of the group to voice his concern. "I don't want you guys to get offended, but are you alright? You don't just sound, like.. middle of the night tired. You sound worried or a little, I don't know, shaken up?" Shiro and Keith both sighed in unison. The red lion just rushed off to attack the galra ships, leaving Shiro to explain himself. Shiro just sighed. "I had a bad dream is all. I'm fine. Now let's go an help Keith." With that, all of the lions dashed of to fight the galra ships.
By the time they were helping, the red lion had already taken out one of the three ships. While Shiro tended to just deal with the frequent nightmares he had, Keith wasn't so great at it. He got angry at himself, at the world, at the universe for being so weak to something that was going on inside his head. He felt that no matter how strong he acted, he would always be his own weakness, and that bothered him a lot. He got so distracted by his thoughts, that he didn't hear the team's screams until he was already in danger. Keith heard one last shout of "Watch out!" from Pidge, but it was too late. The red lion took a huge hit and went spiraling into the closest galra ship with a loud, metallic thud. Red hit the galra ship head first, causing Keith to be jolted forward painfully. Keith was completely dazed for moment and the voices of his team mates were just distant slurs to him. He sat there, completely paralysed, before he came back to his senses and flew off in a not quite straight line, which concerned Shiro in particular. And therefore, it was the black paladin that spoke up. "Get Keith back to the castle and check that's he's okay. I'll be with you in a moment." Hunk picked up Red in Yellow's mouth gently and flew back to the castle, being covered by Lance and Pidge. Shiro used the black lion's jaw-blade to fight off the last 2 ships, while the other lions landed in their hangers in the castle.
They immediately rushed over to the red lion and to Keith, who still looked a little dazed and had obviously had a bad bump to the head. Lance was instantly worried by this and walked to Keith slowly, then spoke in the softest, most quiet voice that had ever escaped his lips. "Hey, Keith? Do you want to go in a healing pod?" Keith nodded weakly and looked up at Lance, who now had his arms outstretched ready to carry Keith. Normally, Keith would have roundhouse kicked him in the face. But right now? Keith used the chair of the red lion to push himself up, then allowed Lance to pick him up bridal style. Keith rested his head against Lance's shoulder and sighed as he was put into a healing pod, then everything faded to black.
