chapter 7-the iceberg breaks

To say Weiss Schnee was frustrated was an understatement. Not only was her father's legacy haunting her from beyond the grave, her husband Neptune wasn't helping matters by flirting with half the women around Atlas. Her team and Jaune's had warned her about him, but she kept insisting that if he got married, he would drop his flirtatiousness and be loyal. And until Rowena started to attend Beacon, her theory appeared to be right. Of course, there were a few perfunctory passes at other women  here and there after the wedding, but once Rowena was born, he dropped the habit entirely, and was as faithful as a man could be. However, once she packed her bags and said her goodbyes, his habit returned with a vengeance. She muttered angrily," I swear, if I so much as catch wind of an affair, his bags will be on the next ship out to vacuo-" a knock on the door distracted her and drew her out of her musings. She said," come in. Please." One of Weiss' most trusted aides walked in, and said," I must inform you that your husband has been... having extramarital affairs." Weiss fumed internally, and coldly said," you know this how?" The aide said," because i... I'm the one hes been having an affair with primarily." Weiss said angrily," wait. There's more women he's having affairs with?!" The aide said," yes. This footage is all recorded communications through scroll, and video proof of an affair. I... took the video myself so I could frame him." Weiss said," I'm deeply sorry that scoundrel put you through that. You are excused from your duties until you wish to come back. Rest assured, I will deal with him." The aide walked out, and Weiss looked over the scroll texts. By the time she finished them, her hand was drifting towards where myrtenaster used to hang on her belt, and she texted Neptune, saying, 'come to my office. We need to talk.' He walked in not five minutes later, looking slightly put out. Weiss said," Neptune. Would you care to explain the claims of you having affairs with my staff that have been brought to my attention?" It wasn't a question, but Neptune boldly lied, thinking she had no proof. Not realizing, of course, that proof was in her scroll, which lay safely in her pocket. He said," that's a lie, my dear. I've never had affairs with anyone. Ever." Weiss said," i'd believe you, except... I have video and pholographic proof of you having affairs with not one, not two, but SEVEN OF MY STAFF." She raised her hand, and two guards walked out and grabbed Neptune by his arms and began to escort him out. He said angrily," what of our daughter, Weiss? You think she'll stand for this?" Weiss said," I've already informed her of our divorce. And she agrees wholeheartedly, given what you've done." Which wasnt true, not entirely. Weiss had texted Rowena about her decision, but had received no response. Five hours later, long after Neptune and his bags were tossed into a Schnee freighter bound for vacuo, Weiss received a heartfelt plea to return to beacon. It wasn't from Rowena, or Ruby, or anyone she knew personally. It was from someone named Damon Forge, who claimed to be Rowena's teammate. The message said," if you see this, Ms.schnee, please return to beacon. Your daughter needs you desperately. Respectfully, Damon Forge, Rowena' s teammate." Weiss hit a button, and said," prep my shuttle. We're heading to beacon first thing tomorrow."

Five hours earlier
Team Specter's dorm
3rd person p.o.v.

Rowena yawned, stretching as she sat down on the roof. Damon was on a date with Morgiana before she went to see her grandparents in Atlas, and Victor was in Vale for the next few days on vacation with his mom and dad. Team Void was on a mission, and wouldn't return until tomorrow. Which left Rowena with nothing to do, and no one to talk to. "Figures. The one time I feel talktative, no one's here..."She muttered. almost as if bidden by her words, her scroll dinged. She read the I.D., and said," huh. I wonder what mom wants." Her mother's intentions were painfully clear in the message. She read it in disbelief once, twice, three times, before reading it quietly.
"My dear Rowena, it causes me great pain to inform you that your father and i have gotten a divorce. I understand if you're angry with us, but its for the best. Love, mom."
Rowena dropped her scroll, whispering, "no.... this can't be happening..." She drew her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around her knees and sobbing quietly. She didn't answer when Damon walked out, saying," hey, Rowena, its dinnertime." She didn't answer when he walked up, and said quietly," hey, Rowena? You ok?" She whimpered, and Damon said," Rowena, what's wrong?" Rowena whispered," my parents..." Damon sat down and said," what about them?" Rowena said," they're getting a divorce..." Damon's visible eye widened before softening as a sad look came over his face. He loosely wrapped an arm around her, and she stiffened. He said," There s no one but us up here, Rowena. You can cry if you want. I won't say a word to anyone." Hearing his words, she buried her face in his shirt and sobbed loudly, her sobs muffled somewhat by Damon's shirt. He gently hugged her, and after 5 minutes, she stopped crying. Sniffling slightly, she said," you're always doing this... being the support system for the entire team... and other teams, too..." Damon said," what do you mean?" Rowena said," when Morgiana needed training for her ability, you stepped in, not caring about anything else... when Victor needed help with setup for the thanksgiving party, you helped him instead of slouching off... when Akina got into a fight with Shinigami, you consoled her... when renji and Patricia needed hand-to-hand combat training, you took time out of your day to help them, even though it fell to shinigami to do it... and just now, you helped me come to terms with my parents divorce..." looking up, rowena saw Damon had a thousand-yard stare, and had a saddened look on his face. He whispered, " I'm only this nice because I paid the price for being selfish... the price was a family, and a normal life... I tried to use my ability when I could barely control my semblance... And I didn't listen when my father tried to warn me, if I lost control, id destroy everything... tell me, Rowena, have you heard of the Great Atlas Fire?" Rowena nodded. Damon said," I caused that fire, and my family died because of it. That's why I try to get people to see the good in everything they have, because I wouldn't wish what I experienced at age 14 to happen to anyone, of any age. To know you caused the deaths of your entire family, and then some... and to know, that if you had listened, they'd still be alive... it broke me." Rowena said quietly," does Morgiana know?" Damon nodded, saying," she got my sister's mark, and she was nearby when it happened. Not to mention, I told her and her parents about it." Damon went quiet, and said," as the sun sets on one day in one place, it rises on another somewhere else. All ends are beginnings, Rowena. Just because your parents lives together are over doesn't mean yours is." Rowena smiled, and said," it's a shame you're dating Morgiana... I wouldn't mind dating such a smooth talker..." Damon laughed.
