THREE
Changbin was sitting alone at a table at lunch. Around him, people were happily chatting.
He was the new guy, the weird one. He had come three years ago, and he would only wear dark colours. Also, he would always sit alone, refusing to socialize, listening to his music, not talking to anyone.
Word had spread around that his parents had died in a horrible car crash with him being the only survivor, now living with his grandma, but still, people thought he was weird.
They could feel that he didn't want to talk, so they left him alone. So, he was alone. He was lonely. But he liked it that way. At least he thought so.
Some people would even call him 'emo boy' because he preferred wearing dark coloured hoodies even in summer and had black hair.
But he was definitely not emo. Changbin disliked that whole emo culture itself because, in his opinion, most 'emo kids' had no reason to be emo. Most of them didn't lose their parents like he did. They should be grateful for what they have because people like Changbin would give everything to have what they have: parents.
Sometimes he would overhear people complaining about their parents being too strict or doing things that were considered weird.
Hearing it, he felt the urge to punch them in the face.
They were being strict because they were protective, which meant they loved their children.
And better have parents that are 'annoying' or 'too strict' than have none. Changbin knew that even though most people his age said they hated their parents, they'd be devastated if they'd lose them.
Losing his beloved mother and father Changbin had learned many things: nothing is for sure. You are never in total control of anything. Things don't go your way. Happiness doesn't last.
Most importantly, he learned that you can suddenly lose everything. That people you love sometimes just disappear, without you having the chance to say goodbye. Changbin didn't want to get close to people. They could, like his parents, leave him and he knew he couldn't stand the pain of losing someone, not again.
Changbin never smiled. For him there was no reason to smile. It was not that he was necessarily depressed, he just wasn't happy. There had not been a happy moment for him since his parents had died in front of his eyes, crashed by another car.
Sighing he started eating his lunch. To cut out the loud voices of the people in the cafeteria he turned up the volume of his music, moving his right foot to the beat.
At first, he didn't notice that some guy sat down on his table, right in front of him. And when he did, he winced a bit.
Scanning the guy, he furrowed his brows. Why did a guy like that sit down at his table?
His hair was blonde, but obviously dyed. He had this annoying smile on his face and looked like a little happy puppy with his big brown eyes. Actually, that guy looked pretty good. But it somehow annoyed Changbin. Especially that bright red pullover annoyed him.
Staring at his face, trying to get him to go away, he noticed that he was being talked to. Even more annoyed than before he stopped his music and took out his headphones.
"So, are you the emo guy of the school?"
Red-pullover-guy asked and Changbin rolled his eyes."I am not emo."
"You look like an emo."
"I'm not."
his voice was cold, signalising that he did not like having a conversation with the other guy. But he seemed too bubbly and cheerful to notice that."My name is Felix Lee, I'm new here. We moved here a week ago. What's your name?"
Felix Lee asked him, smiling at him. He looked good, especially smiling. Annoying."Changbin."
"Ah nice! Can you show me around later?"
"No."
"Why?"
"Why would I show you around?"
for a second, they looked at each other's eyes. Changbin then looked away. Felix didn't understand why Changbin was being like that, cold and rejecting."I don't know... maybe be nice to me?"
"And why would I do that?"
Felix didn't know what to say for a moment.
"Being nice to others makes you feel good. Makes you happy."
"I don't like 'happy'."
Changbin grumbled and Felix furrowed his brows."Actually-"
"You only look good when you're not talking so please stop."
Changbin quickly interrupted him and his bluntness made Felix shut up for a few minutes. They both ate their food, Changbin eating a little faster than usually to leave quickly. At the same time, he couldn't stop staring at Felix. He looked somehow cute when chewing his food. Changbin was sure that he'd be welcomed by the others warmly, he seemed nice and looked stunning after all. So why had he decided to sit with him?
"You're staring."
Felix noted, winking at Changbin who turned slightly red."To be honest, Changbin, I think you're an interesting guy. Never had someone tell me I'd look good after just five minutes of meeting. Appreciate it though. You look quite good as well."
Felix grinned broadly, pleased with himself. He had already finished his plate and stood up to leave. This time, it was Changbin who was speechless.
It had been a long time since someone had made him speechless.
