Insight # 4

" How can you judge my mistakes, when you have not corrected your own? Everyone makes mistakes. I am not on my own. Stand with me, don't scream. Join me in my dream. This is the only way I know. Just help me to make it show. My story, my life.

Who are you to judge when you don't know my tale? "

Chapter #4 - Who Are You To Judge? (Part 1)

**"My name is Elijah Avington," Said the boy with the orange eyes, "But you can call me Eli."

He had a mischievous glint in his eyes as he finished his sentence.

"I am Lara Sommerton," I replied nervously under his gaze. It just slipped out, subconsciously I was reaching out to him.  I have never used my real name before. Maybe his eyes affected me more than I thought. El jolted her head to look at me, in shock from what I had just said.

"After?" she called out, still pretending to be drunk, but her face told me she was not acting. I gave a small nod in reply, and her face lit up. I wanted an after. I didn't want to end this today.

"Aren't you scared to be out in the dark? With your drunk friend, I might add", He questioned me in an inquisitive yet demanding manner.

"Not really", I reply, less confidently as I was aiming to. My voice sounded weaker than it usually does. Looking back up at him, he smiled, as if to reassure me.

Then he spoke.

"Well, you know what they say. Love trumps hate."**

Those words resonated within my broken and lost soul, drawing it closer to me, as I wished my heart would beat. The words had a meaning to me. A new and special feeling crept over my body and warmed it in the cool night.

I was falling for him already, and much to fast. He was my mate.

"Are you alright?" Eli asked with a concerned tone in his voice. His orange eyes seemed to stare into my soul, but unfortunately, they could not, as I had never had a soul. My lips twitched to form a small, but sincere smile at his genuine concern.

"Yes, thank you" I replied with the politest words I could form a sentence with, in my slightly scrambled brain. My mate was a human. I could not smell any supernatural creature on him, so he was either human or more disguised than me.

Seeping onto his glorious face, came a breathtaking smile. Literally, making my forget to breathe. Fortunately, this would not do any damage to me, since I pretended to use the air to avoid suspicion.

"Good," he replied, "I don't usually do this, but would it be possible to have your number?"

A nervous look reflected deep in his eyes, and the question shocked me, sure plenty of people had asked me for my number, but no one made my brain confused or my body tingle in the way Eli did. I was happy to know that he was feeling a small part of the power our bond has.

Slowly nodding my head I replied quietly.

"Yes," and Eli seemed to let out a relieved breath of air. It occurred to me that he almost sounded scared that I might say no.

He quickly and quietly pulled out his phone from his pocket and offered it to me. I carefully took it and entered my number. Wordlessly passing it back to him, a small smile spread across my face.

Suddenly he launched forward, and his arms surrounded my body. His sudden movements surprised me. His scent surrounded me, forcing its way inside me. There was something peculiar about his smell. There were tones of something that I recognised, but could not place. But just as quickly as his arms hugged me, they left. I felt myself missing his touch, and I was craving it more than blood. I moved my face upwards so that my eyes could see his. I was met with a worried expression, and his eyes had tones of fear running through them.

"I..I am sorry, I just could not help myself," Eli stuttered lightly, a small blush barely appearing on his cheeks. For some reason, I completely understood.

"That is okay" I replied while giving an understanding nod. His eyes lit up, almost as if he had expected me to reject his sudden and unfamiliar affection. This made me wonder what sort of person he was, and how he thought of me. Did he like me? How would he react if he knew what a monster I had to be to survive? Why did his eyes show fear whenever he left himself slightly open? Was he scared of me? Or was he just wary of showing a stranger a different and unexpected side to him?

Suddenly, a strangled scream came from a nearby alley, turning to Eli, I saw that his eyes have slightly unfocused. Wordlessly, he dashed away to wear the sound has come from He was fast. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I thought that his speed was too much for a human. I sped after him, making sure it seemed like I was struggling to keep up with his pace.

As we arrived in a dark alley, I saw people that I recognised. People that should not be here.

Sorry for such a short chapter, but in order for the story to flow better, Chapter 4 needed to be split. Part 2 will be updated faster than a normal chapter because I would hate to leave a chapter half finished. I will update it in the next couple of days.

So what do you think about Eli?

Why is he suddenly showing affection to Lara?

Why is he so fast?

And finally, who do you think the people in the alley are?

I would love to hear your ideas and predictions!!

Thank You, Newlights.
