Chapter 10

I looked in front of me and a burly man who I can only assume to be La Sombra said,

"Sweetie I thought you were smarter than this," but the person who turned around next caught me off guard,

"Mike?" I said in shock, "But how? You sent me out here to do my job and then I find this mess." He laughed and shook his head,

"I'm sorry, Aspen" Derek whispered while tying me up, before taking Mike's side.

"First off, your partner here, is my son and by now I really thought you would have this figured out. Second, as you know, you're the rightful heir to this agency but only when you turn 24, unless" He stopped, took the gun from my former partner and walked towards me smirking, "a tragic and unfortunate event just like your mothers were to happen to you."

"you manipulative, scheming son of a-"

"Ah ah ah, I wouldn't finish that sentence if I were you, though it doesn't really matter, since I'm going to kill you anyways. You see, all this time, I was just waiting for Derek to do something , but since he was taking too long, I had to take matters into my own hands." Mike pointed his gun at me while approaching, "Oh Aspen, I wish it didn't have to come to this but oh well, we have to do what we have to do" he shrugged. I closed my eyes when I heard the safety click.

I'm not completely sure how this all happened but suddenly, all hell broke loose and in the frenzy, a bullet shot towards me. Before I had time to move, I was hit. The immediate pain I felt was unbearable and blood was everywhere so I couldn't tell exactly where I'd been shot. In my years of being an assassin, never once had I been shot. It was all a blur but Derek lifted a gun to his father's head, the same one that was pointed at me a few moments ago. "All because I was the heir to her empire. All of this, because I unwillingly became the heir..." I thought. The last thing I saw was a satisfied smile on Mike's face before the agonizing pain was intolerable and I blacked out.
