Part 1~ Gone.

Nathan stared ahead not really listening to the preacher giving his sermon on Destery's behalf.

He'd cried so much in the last two days he couldn't cry anymore. He could hardly keep his eyes open as he tried to block out everything around him. Though he hadn't slept since the other night he wasn't tired...he was just numb. Numb from head to toe and all he wanted to do was to stop breathing.

"Nathan, honey?" A soft voice beside him said. Destery's mother gave him a small reassuring smile and gave his back a pat. "Are you okay?.."

Nathan nodded but couldn't bring himself to say 'yes'.

Because truth was...he was not okay.  Destery Smith was his bestfriend since grade school and they did everything together. They lived together and made videos for their channels on YouTube together..

Nathan couldn't finish his thought. He and Destery had over a thousand subscribers on each of their channels. Destery alone had two channels: Capndesdes and Despawns. What would he tell their fans?...How could he even film a video when he couldnt even go back to the home they shared? He'd been spending his time at Destery's mother's house helping her plan the funeral...he'd have to go back tonight.  He had no idea what he was going to do.

After the funeral they all drove to the grave site and stood around a tent. Under it there was his bestfriend's closed casket. It had stayed closed throughout the funeral as well due to the condition of his body. They said he'd been attacked in the alley he was found in that night and some witness called the cops. The witness asked to remain anonymous. The cops had no leads.

One by one we placed a rose on his casket saying their final goodbyes. Nathan went last and stumbled towards the casket, his heart in his stomach.

Destery! You can't leave me here...Come back to me buddy! Please...

He silently pleaded. After a few seconds he whispered aloud.

"Fair winds, my friend..." and placed the rose on the casket. Tears clouded his vision and he walked away to the safety of his car where he he began to sob.
