Hey guys so I actually made some corrections...instead of just David walking in Jack walks in with him I was originally supposed to put that in but for some reason didn't?? Oh by the way... I AM SO SORRY!! I KNOW I HAVENT UPDATED IN FOREVER LITERALLY FOREVER Sorry about that I hope you enjoy the story :)

Tension….silence….  was all that reverberated off the cheap walls of the Jacobs home. Lissy looked down at her lap and folded her hands together hoping that Jack and Davey didn’t notice it was her. But secretly a part of her wanted Jack, in particular, to notice.

Jack let his gaze fall on the stranger, he felt a pang of familiarity but brushed it off. There was no way he could of met a goil as beautiful as this one ! She looked dreamy in her dress…. oh god Sarah! Jack quickly sprung up blushing and ran over to the open seat next to Sarah. Sarah watching his exchange with the “stranger” pouted in her seat and felt resentment boil in her stomach.

Davey awkwardly cleared his throat and asked, “So Sarah is this one of your friends”? “You could say that”, replied Sarah with a slight hint of malevolence behind her voice. Lissy however took no notice of this and  watched Jack. Realizing the fool didn’t even know it was her she gave a sigh of relief but deep in her stomach a feeling of ill manner rose up. But Lissy obliviously shut it down as hunger and sat there stomaching her disappointment.

Jack tried to focus on Sarah… he really did but he kept catching the watchful glance of the benevolent stranger. He couldn’t help but notice her long blond curls cascading down her back and her deep blue eyes. Looking into those eyes he felt a feeling of nostalgia but told himself that he was merely hallucinating.

During diner catching eyes with Jack was a frequent pastime Lissy noted looking up and seeing those chocolate brown eyes boring into her own deep blue ones. She quickly looked away telling herself to stop blushing. Looking down at her plate Lissy happened to realize the vast amount of food she had left untouched. On usual occasions Lissy would eat a lot… actually that was an underestimation….Lissy would eat an immense mass of food. Newsies tended to eat less than the average new yorkers. So, when the chance came for a meal they would “seize the day” and try to eat as much as possible. Lissy was no exception to this rule.

But today her stomach kneaded itself into knots that rose and fell as the tide near the Brooklyn Bridge. Suddenly she rose, “Thank Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs for the meal but I really must be going, it was nice to see you again David”. And with a smile she turned to flee through the door when she heard Sarah’s timid voice say. “ Just leave the dress on my bed before you leave, Dusty”. Lissy felt her eyes widen and her grip tighten on the side of Sarah’s dress. “Oops I meant Lissy”. Battering her eyes stuttered out Sarah faking innocence. Lissy ran to the bathroom and promptly shut the door not daring to look in the direction of Jack’s face.

Hot tears slid down the girls face as she sat on the cold linoleum floor of the tiny, cramped bathroom. Why Sarah would do that was beyond her but now Jack knew...oh god Jack knew! What was she going to do? What if she lost her job or got kicked out of the lodging house. A horror stricken realization crossed her mind, she had nowhere else to go. Sitting there with dust surrounding her the undercover girl felt truly lost. She solemnly decided it would be best if she didn’t go to the lodging house tonight and face the tough throng of boys who would surely know her secret by daylight. She opened the bathroom door slightly and crept into Sarah’s room. Folding the dress neatly on the tiny immaculate bed she slipped out of the window into the cold night air leaving only a note addressed to David behind.

Walking along the empty streets a sense of exhaustion overtook Lissy. Realizing that she was beside Central park Lissy came to the conclusion that a bench or some grass would create a makeshift bed. Shivering with the cold winds of the stormy night Lissy lay on the cold grass looking up at the dark murky sky. A lone star was seen traversing the sky but it was overtook by a prodigious cloud. Sighing the girl closed her eyes blocking out the world just as the sky had blocked out the lone star.
