richie

upon arriving, i prop my bike against the bike stand (and next to silver)  and walk into the store. "hi, mr. miller!" i wave over to althea's dad. "hey, son!" he replies as he scans a customer's item. i walk over to the door in the back and press the buzzer.

"miller residence! who might- bill, shush!," althea chuckles, "who might this be?"  she asks again, more composed than she was last. "yeh, is althea present today, mate?" i asked in an accent made up on the spot. "ah, richie!! come in!" she chuckles as i hear bill mumble out something. the door is unlocked and i am greeted with the short brunette.

"hey," she smiled and led me in after locking the door behind her. we go up the stairs and pass her mom in the living room, reading the newspaper. she doesn't hate me, she actually thinks i'm funny. "good afternoon, mrs. miller," i smile at her and she smiles back in response. i enter althea's room to see a mess of blankets and pillows.

"s-suh-sorry for the mess. a-althea and i t-tried to m-make a fort," bill softly smiled. "i don't mind."

"so, what's the unplanned visit for?" althea asks and crosses her arms over her chest. "i need help about someone i love.. like... advice." i mutter in embarrassment. "wh-whu-why come to u-us, though?" bill tilts his head in curiosity. "ingrid and beverly told me that you guys could help."

bill and althea exchange looks. "wuh-we, we aren't..."

"w-we're not... uhm.." althea blushed. "just please help me this once?"

"wuh-we know n-nuh-nothing about l-luh-love," bill looked towards althea to save the situation. "we can at least try. can't we, bill?" she asked him while pleading him to say yes by the way she's looking at him.

he, of course, gets captivated in her and agrees to help. "i'm in love with someone that hates me and i've been such an asshole to her and i don't know what to do to make her forgive me."

althea grabs a root beer from her mini fridge to the left of her piano and hands it to me. "who is this girl, exactly?" she asks as i open the bottle.

"it's y/n," i hesitantly say. "h-hah! y-you owe m-me $50!" bill suddenly yells out. "can't i give anything other than money?!" althea slouches and i look at them in confusion. "w-we c-can talk about th-that later."

"wait... you bet on me?!" i exclaim and take a seat on the piano seat in front of the bed they were sitting on. "y-yeah, th-the bet was that y-you and y/n w-would end up as at least f-friends b-before m-march ends." bill giggles.

"we aren't together!" i retort as they both continue laughing. "well you two will be by next week," althea smiled, "so what do you need help with?" she asks with pure curiosity filling her eyes.

"w-well how do i get her to like me?" i push my glasses higher on the bridge of my nose. "j-ju-just don't b-be an asshole. a-admit w-whatever you did wrong and maybe give her something that'll m-make her h-h-happy."

"properly pick out the words to say to her, alright?"

"she's way out of my league!" i groan. "really? i've always thought she had a small crush on you." althea tilted her head.

"what do you mean?" i ask before taking a sip of the root beer. "well, before we were losers, she would tell ingrid and i that you were kinda cute. it was only until we became losers that she started shit talking you back."

that was the last significant thing i remember about my purpose of being there. the rest of the day was spent laughing with them and playing board games. before i knew it, it was five o'clock and i decided go.

"richie, before you go, i think y/n would like this if you gave it to her." she handed me a vinyl of power, corruption, & lies by new order. i stood in shock.

"you'll win her back by 50% if you give her that." the short girl giggles. i notice bill look at her softly.

"holy shit! thank you, althea! i owe you one." i hug her. "don't worry about it, trashmouth."

"tell ya' what, i bet you two $10 that you'll end up together by april. you'll be kissin' and holdin' hands ev'rywhere." i say in another voice. they both flush in a deep pink. bill looks down and fiddles with the sleeves of his red flannel. "beep beep, richie." they both smile and thus, i leave the miller residence.
