"You he made a promise to me," I say whilst laying down in my bed.

"Who made a promise?" Gerard yawns.

"Derrick promised me he'd wait for me. I wouldn't say it was a pinky promise, but it was definitely a promise." I place my hands behind my head, looking up at the ceiling.

"I never realised until now that's why you've been turning down every guy trying to hit on you. You've got a mate." Gerard chuckles, lowly. He seems tired.

"It wouldn't be right for me to have intercourse with someone other than my mate."

"Well, I haven't met my mate yet."

"Have you slept with someone else?"

"Multiple actually. I regret some, but I hope my mate understands. I'm not the only wolf out there to not stay truthful till our mate comes. Fuck, some of us wait years until we meet them, others don't even meet them." He explains. "But when I meet my mate, she or he, you never know. They will be the last person I sleep with."

"I hope Derrick keeps that promise and isn't unfaithful to me." I roll over and look at Gerard. "Do you think he would break a promise to his mate?"

Word had gotten around the Alpha Dalton and I had an argument.

No one understood why we did. Goddess knows why we were yelling or evening have the argument. He was just trying to prove his dominance and wanted me to submit to help. But I refused. I couldn't accept him to be my alpha anymore and that was something hard to realise. We had known each other since we were pups, grown up together and we were suppose to be mates.

But he broke the one promise and the one thing I had asked him.

The next couple of days, I fixed the remaining outposts and lookout posts. I spent my days nailing, painting, repairing everything I could. I made my decisions, I was going to leave the pack and go somewhere else. Somewhere I didn't have to see my mate with his chosen. The amount of pain and suffering I was going through when I was home, I felt things I had never felt. Or if I did, I thought it was from reoccurring injuries.

Mindy had come to help me on the last outpost.

"Seeing you on the TV, signing that treaty was truly amazing." She ranted on. "I felt so jealous that I didn't join the cause and fight in the war."

"There was nothing glorious or glamourises about the war, Mindy."

She shook her hair, making her blonde pony tail sway from side to side. "I know that. But I felt powerless not helping."

"You're too young." I added.

"Doesn't mean I couldn't help some other way."

"Just be glad the wars the over now, Mindy. Things can go back to normal."

"Does that mean you'll be back at Beta?" She questions.

I hesitate. "I'm not sure. My brother has done a great job as being Beta. I might follow my mum and sister in the role of medic. I don't know."

"I'd accept you as my Beta. You know that right?"

"I appreciate it, but truly, I don't deserve it."

"You're a General in the Royal Army. I'm sure if you ask the queen she'd allow it. Plus our folk law states..."

"States that the eldest has rights and blah blah blah. I know, but I'm honestly not wanting to be reinstated."

"Is the because of the argument you had with Alpha Dalton?"

I avoid her stares and nail down the last floorboard. "No. It's just that things have changed and I'm no longer wanted. Or needed."
