Fidelis' POV

I don't know why but I let her walk out of my grasp, out of the room, and out of my life.

Maybe it was the shock I felt from her speech or maybe it was because I was fighting my wolf.

...Or maybe it was because I knew that holding her back would only make her hate me more.

Stupid mortalis form. You have upset my mate and you let her leave our embrace! Foolish imbecile. I will not stand for this!

My wolf took over my form and went in search for our mate while I just watched and let it happen.

Lupus's POV (Fidelis' wolf)

I walked quickly through the corridors following my mate's delicious scent. She smelled of bacas and vanilla.

I finally found my mate sitting underneath a lignum...or tree as she called it earlier. She was leaking yet again from her oculi....or rather crying as she taught me earlier.

I ran to her and slowed to a stop right in front of her. She didn't acknowledge my presence though. In fact, she turned her back to me so that she was now facing the lignum.

I whimpered as my heart ached at her actions. I sat down and wanted so badly to bring her into my arms but I didn't because I knew if she rejected my touch, my heart would ache even more.

So I just sat. Trying to think of what to say. What could I possibly say that would convey how much I love her already? How do I tell her that I would do anything for her, do anything to protect her, even if it meant giving my life because that's how much I love her already? How can I tell her that I want to spend the rest of my life with her, that I want to be with her until we are old and gray and can't walk without assistance? How do I tell her that I want her and only her for forever and a day?

I sighed and shook my head, ready to just get up and leave as nothing I could say would be able to convey what I am feeling.

Her hands shot out and grabbed onto my wrists, preventing me from moving any further. I tilted my head in confusion.

"Do you really mean that?" I looked at her confused.

"Mean what, Mate?"

"Mean everything you just said...well thought?" My eyes widened in surprise before I quickly meant her gaze.

"You....you heard all that?" She nodded her head and I offered her a small smile.

"Did you mean it?" I didn't hesitate to nod.

"Of course! You are my mate and I love you, even if I have only known you for a day. You are mine as I am yours and I want to love you for the rest of my existence. I never want to hurt you and I'm sorry that I hurt you earlier. It was a misunderstanding though. I really do love you and I wasn't lying about that. They had just thought that if I-"

Elizabeth's POV

I cut him off my wrapping my arms around his neck and hopping into his lap to give him a hug.

"You don't know how much that means to me." He wrapped his strong arms around my waist and pulled me as close to him as possible.

"I love you. For forever and a day." I lifted my head off his chest to look into his eyes.

"Do you promise?" My voice came out in a whisper but he still heard it. He chuckled and nodded.

"Of course." I nodded, content with his answer, and laid my head back down on his chest.
