"Priya!" Somebody was knocking the room door, "Wake up dear. You know what an important day it is today," the voice called out. "Coming Paati," a young girl of early twenties jumped out of the washroom. She was fully covered with water, wet from head to toe. She was wearing a regular T-shirt and shorts. Before opening the door, she quickly wrapped a towel around her waist, because Paati was allergic to short outfits. She opened the door to see an old woman wearing saree, short and plump, still smart.

Paati was the owner of the hostel where Priya was living in. She was very strict when it came to discipline, as she was in-charge of fifty young girls who lived in the hostel. But Paati was also the kindest being you could ever find. She easily moved along very well with the girls and treated all of them like her own daughters.

Paati glanced at Priya from top to bottom through the glasses on her nose. She immediately bursted out laughing. "Are you still learning to shower dear?" Paati couldn't stop laughing. Priya frowned at Paati. "Why are you getting angry early in the morning itself?" Paati walked into the room, "You should always start a day with a bright smile." "Hahaha," Priya faked a laugh, "Is that bright enough?" Priya purposely looked annoyed with the intention of gaining some sympathy. Priya always played such tricks for two reasons. One was because she was very playful, and the other was because she loved Paati more than her life.

"Come on Priya, tell me what's wrong," Paati was concerned. "You still didn't fix it," Priya pointed at the shower. "Erm..." Paati was speechless this time, "Oh so that was the problem. No big deal. I'll fix it soon." "You've been repeating this for one month, just making useless promises," Priya tried to look annoyed. "Hey I forgot to tell you! Wanna come today for dinner at my place?" Paati asked with the expectation of changing the topic. "Nope," Priya turned around not facing Paati to show disappointment. Paati placed her hands on Priya's shoulders and Priya slightly smiled knowing that her trick had worked once again. She turned around to face Paati and placed both her hands on her waist. Before she could put out more arguments, the towel slipped.

"Aaargh!" Paati screamed with her eyes closed. "Shush Paati," Priya quickly grabbed the towel to wrap it around back on her waist, "My legs aren't that bad." "What did I see God. Youngster these days are shameless, no discipline, no shyness. When we were at your age...," "We were so modest that we don't even know how our male cousins looked like," Priya finished the sentence. Paati stared at Priya. "What?" Priya gave a questioning look, "This has been your dialogue whenever you see a girl wearing some short dress." "You haven't learnt anything from it though," Paati turned around with her arms folded. It was Paati's turn now.

"Come on Paati. This is the first time you caught me, because I wear shorts only at home when nobody's around," Priya tried to convince Paati. She hugged Paati from behind, allowing her cheek to touch Paati's cheek, "So what's special for dinner today Paats?" Paati didn't answer to show more disappointment. Priya grabbed Paati by her shoulders and turned her around to face her. "Why are you getting angry early in the morning itself?" Priya playfully pinched Paati's nose, "You should always start a day with a bright smile. And your smile is the only thing which will make my day."

Paati's lips curved to form a smile, " You know how to convince me very well. Come for dinner at six today. I want you to meet someone." "Sure Paats, keep that smile when you walk on the streets too, you'll get many proposals from those college boys." Paati waved at Priya laughing and left the room. Seeing Paati smile was the best thing ever for Priya. And she knew that today was going to be a good day.
