Surya's P.O.V.
"This place looks amazing right," Priya was looking around and her eyes were almost bulging. "Yes, but why have you brought me here?" I asked. We had arrived at a restaurant which was not a very expensive one, but I knew very well that this was not a place Priya could easily afford. "Why don't we sit first and then talk about it," Priya was pointing to a table. After we sat down, Priya was still beaming and I started to feel the sensational feeling in my stomach. The waiter came with the menu and Priya pursed her lips after seeing the prices, but still managed to put on a wide smile. "Go ahead," she gave me the menu. "Why do you want to waste all your money when you still haven't got a job," I asked her, remembering Priya coming back from the Hospital in the morning and saying that she failed to impress Dr Shridhar again. Then she wanted to go out for lunch to cheer herself up and invited both Paati and me. Just as I was silently hoping, Paati refused to come saying she doesn't like to eat fast food, but I knew the real reason behind it was that Paati wanted to give us some privacy. I knew her intentions when she eyed me with a triumphant smile. Though I wanted to blush, I only smiled back innocently.
"Just spending a bit more than the other days will not hurt if I'm gonna earn all of it back," Priya replied with a smirk. I frowned and then came to realize what was all this about, "Oh congratulations, so you finally got the job!" "Yes, and for your kind information, I got it in my second go," she frowned. "I'm sorry I didn't mean that..." I was stopped by Priya's laughter. Then she did something that I never expected her to do. She pinched my right cheek, "You're too cute Surya. You always keep on falling for my simple jokes and apologizing for no reason." At that moment I didn't know if I should feel embarrassed or blush with happiness. It was a feeling that I've never felt before. I didn't know how to react, so I just smiled back.
"I was facing the same issue even today when Dr Shridhar called me in," she related the story, "I was getting frustrated as he was ignoring me again. Then I remembered you." Surya's cheeks became red at that statement. "I remembered what you've said. And I relaxed after imagining my parents. Then out of nowhere he said I'm selected. Later on he told me that he was only testing my patience, since that is what most doctors lack these days. If you lose your patience, you'll lose your patients," Priya concluded. "Did he say that too?" "Who do you think is good at creating cool punch dialogues other than me?" she smirked. "I would never second that," I accepted truthfully and we both burst into a laugh.
"We came here for lunch, not for dinner," Priya handed me the menu again gesturing me to order. "Sorry," I said taking the menu and Priya smiled again. Gosh I just realized that I do apologize a lot and that too for no reason. I picked the cheapest meal available. "You want that?" Priya asked in disbelief. "Yes, I'm perfectly fine with soup...er...I'm on a diet these days," I was trying to find some reason. Priya rolled her eyes, "Oh come on Surya. You made my dreams come true, but you're not even letting me to get you some lunch. I know this restaurant is not up to your standards, but accept this as a small gift, please?" Even a stubborn big shot thug would've fallen on his knees for the puppy face she was making. "Nothing is small when you're with a special person," I said almost to myself. "Huh?" she asked as she couldn't hear what I've just said. "Anything is fine," I changed my words this time.
Priya chose the meal for both of us which was quite expensive. "It could've been easy for me if you were a girl," she said with a smirk, "I could've just given you a hug and have a Thalapathy movie marathon at the hostel." She smiled quickly so that I'll understand that it was another joke, but only one thing was stuck in my mind. "Don't you hug men?" I asked. "Nope. I find it very personal. You know, giving a hug for me personally means showing that you are there for somebody. It's a very affectionate thing to do. I've not even hugged any elderly men, may be because I didn't get a love from them like Appa's," Priya shrugged, "Perhaps the last man I hugged was Appa." She said as she quickly wiped her tears. "I'm sorry I got a bit emotional," she added quickly. "Hey it's okay, now you're apologizing for no reason," I said, and it brought back her smile.
"Don't you have a boyfriend?" I blurted out the question that I badly wanted to ask her. "I still haven't found the correct one." "You never had a boyfriend?" I asked curiously. "Noooo," she laughed. "Has anybody proposed you?" I asked with more adrenalin pumping in me to know her reply. At this question she stopped and her mind seemed to be lost. Then she slowly shook her head. "You're lying," I said without thinking. "No I'm not." "You are lying Priya!" I was enraged. "Wait wait wait. Why are we even arguing about this? You only know me for a few weeks. So, you have no choice but to believe what I say," she said firmly. Silence fell. She was right. Who am I to ask her all these anyway?
"What about you?" she asked trying to stop the awkwardness. "I'm single." "Whaaaat?!?! Can't be! You are rich and handsome," she was surprised. I blushed and replied, "You are pretty too." She was exceptionally pretty today in her pink party frock. She rolled her eyes, "Come on. Guys don't follow me at all. But look at you, there's some girl always around eying you, just like the girl in our left." What? Was a girl looking at me right now? I quickly turned to my left. "Where?" I asked and looked at Priya. She was covering her face, "Why did you turn so quick, the girl will know we're talking about her. Thank God she was in my left." "Your left?" I turned to her left and saw a girl staring at me. She quickly looked down. "Oi, won't you ever learn?" Priya said face palming. Oi? My heart was beating fast now. Did she just say 'Oi'? My memories of the last time we met 3 years ago came right in front of my eyes. That was the last time she addressed me that way.
Priya's P.O.V.
"I've got to get ready for tomorrow. Bye," I waved at Surya and walked to the hostel. I thought Surya was a boring guy, just like all the common businessmen. He turned out to be fun, even when I was the one who spoke the most. But at the moment, only one thing was in my mind. As soon as I entered my room, I pulled my suitcase from under my bed and opened it. I finally found that one thing that was bothering me ever since Surya asked about it today. I took the small red box out and slowly opened it. In it lay a golden ring which I've been treasuring ever since I got it 3 years ago. A tear fell on my cheek. You came like a rain that fell on a barren land, and left like a thunder that ruined the land and made it barren again. I miss you Batman.
Hey Guys! How's my update today. I hope you guys enjoyed it. What do you guys think really happened between Surya and Priya three years ago? What made them part ways?
