Priya saw a door labelled with the name tag 'Dr. Shridhar' and knew that was where she had to go. "God, please help me control my mouth," she mumbled to herself and slowly opened the door. "May I come in sir?" she requested. "Yes," a stern voice replied and that reply alone formed goosebumps all over Priya's body. She saw Shridhar sitting on his chair but he didn't look up at her when she entered, instead he was bending and reading through some documents. Priya smiled at Shridhar's grey hair' because that was what she could see instead of his face.
She immediately pulled out a chair to sit, when Shridhar quickly looked up at her. Realizing that she forgot to ask permission to sit, Priya quickly took her hand away from the chair and stood very straight. "Manners Priya, manners," she mumbled to herself. Shridhar was still staring at her but Priya couldn't figure out what was going on in his mind. Was he going to fire her even before she had joined work? That was the only thing running in Priya 's mind.
Shridhar once again began to go through the document and Priya simply stood there as if she was invisible. After fifteen minutes Shridhar looked up again and Priya quickly straightened herself. "Miss Priya?" he asked. "Yes Doctor," she replied and let out a sigh, relieved that finally he had noticed her. "I have some important appointment now, you can stay out until I call you back," he said. Now this was too much for Priya, she could feel all the cells in her body screaming and shouting in anger. But she smiled politely and replied, "Yes Doctor," and left the room.
As soon as she came out, Priya quickly sat on a seat, leaned onto it and covered her face with the file she had brought so as to cover her face which had turned red due to anger.
"So you enjoyed it?" she heard a voice opposite to her and took her file away to see who it was. "Hi," Jay waved. Priya faked a wide smile and looked away. "I'm Vijay, but everybody calls me Jay," he held his hand out to shake. Priya faked a wide smile again and replied, "I don't have a name, but everybody calls me Priya." "Hahahahah, nice joke," Jay laughed. Priya rolled her eyes and looked away. "So are you here for an internship?" Jay asked. "No, I came here to collect the garbage," she replied sarcastically. "Okay cool. I understand your signal for me to leave. I was just trying to help," Jay shrugged and stood up to leave.
He stood for sometime without leaving, hoping that Priya would stop him. But Priya was in her own world thinking about dealing with Shridhar. "Do you really want me to leave?" he asked with some last hope. Priya looked up and frowned at him as if she was going to strangle his neck. "Okay Okay I'll leave," he smiled and left. Priya held her head in her hands and mumbled to herself, "I'm already frustrated with Dr. Shridhar and this Jay is making it worse."
Priya opened her file and went through it. She wanted to do something to kill time. She just looked around, she noticed a three ants going in a line. one was leading the other two, and those two were stopping very often to argue with each other not knowing where exactly their leader is taking them. "What am I thinking," Priya slapped her forehead slightly. "But that is so related to me. Dr. Shridhar is that leader ant and Jay and I are the two followers and we have no idea where our boss is taking us," she smiled to herself knowing how silly her thoughts were. Her head automatically turned towards the reception and she could clearly see Jay smiling and he waved at her from there.
Priya 's quickly turned her head away from Jay. She couldn't understand why she hated him so much. Maybe because the first thing she saw him doing was flirting. He was very handsome, but he didn't look like those playboys. Priya slowly turned her head towards the reception to see Jay, but he wasn't there. "Where did he go?" she told to herself and looked more intently. "Boo!" Priya almost jumped up hearing that sound right next to her. It was Jay.
Priya rolled her eyes and looked away from him. "Hey now don't pretend to not notice me. I know you were looking for me all this while," he said playfully. "Hahahah," she faked a laugh, "I don't have any other work but to look for you," she said sarcastically. "But what other work are you busy with then?" he asked raising his eyebrows. Priya let out a sigh, "Okay fine. I know I'm jobless. But that doesn't mean I have to look for you." "Then why did you look at me?" Jay asked folding his arms. "Who said I looked at you? I looked at Divya," she replied with a smirk. "Truth is truth even if you don"t want to accept it," he said with a smile. "Same to you!" she replied smiling back widely. "Fine fine," Jay shrugged, "I just came here to inform you that boss is waiting for you." "Seriously? And you couldn't tell that in the beginning," Priya stood up shaking her head. Before she went in Jay showed a thumbs up wishing her luck. Priya frowned back and went in.
"May I come in sir?" Priya started with the same procedure. "Yes," Shridhar gave the same stern reply. This time Priya kept herself straight to forbid herself from sitting before she was asked to. Shridhar held out his hand gesturing Priya to hand over her file. She quickly gave them, overjoyed that something different is happening this time. He went through her certificates while Priya was still standing. Then he looked through his glasses, pointed at the chair and said, "You may." Smiling, Priya took her seat and thanked him.
After a while, Shridhar gave the file back to Priya and spoke, "Very well. You can come back tomorrow again." Priya simply stared at Shridhar clueless on what was going on. She was thinking of mentioning this day in her diary as the first day of work. But it was not going to be that special day. So did that mean that somebody else was chosen instead of her? Or is it that Shridhar just wants to delay the day that she'll be fired? So many thoughts ran in her mind. "Thank you," she said and came out still clueless.
"Hi," came the greeting from the very last person Priya wanted to see at this moment. "Bye," she replied annoyingly and walked towards the exit. "Hey wait," Jay followed but Priya didn't stop walking. "I know you're in no mood to listen to what I say. But remember this, don't think too much when you're closer to what you love. Just have fun," he finished and stopped following her, knowing that Priya heard what he spoke. Priya disappeared through the exit. "Eagerly waiting to see you tomorrow," Jay said and smiled to himself knowing that Priya had already left.
