"In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad, known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories." I walk into the living room, and see Sam sitting on the couch watching Law & Order: SVU.
“Hey Beautiful, guess what.” I smirk sitting down beside her, wrapping my arm around her shoulder pulling her close,
“What?” She smiles that heartwarming smile, placing her head on my chest.
“Smackdown is coming on tonight!” Her smile weavers for a split second sending my mind spinning with questions,
“Yeah…but SVU is having a marathon tonight…” she trails off bating her ocean blue eyes up at me,
“So…you still haven’t watched last weeks and you want to put off this week?” I lift an eyebrow at her, pulling away just slightly.
“It’s not a big deal, its recording…” A slight hint of attitude in her voice, my insides flare but I know there is no need to wake Alanna up over this.
“Just a quick question do you ever watch wrestling?” I ask, hiding all the emotions flooding me at this moment.
“Yeah…of course I do…” she says trying to sound convincing but something in her eyes tells me she is lying,
“Really, so what happened two weeks ago?” I hiss, and then quickly bite my tongue so I don’t show too much emotion.
“You don’t trust me?” she asks, a hint of surprise and anger in her words as she folds her arms across her chest.
“Of course I do, I just wanna know what your favorite match was that’s it.” I stare at her no emotion in my eyes nor words,
“Okay fine, you got me! I don’t watch your precious wrestling, I’m sorry but…it just doesn’t interest me…” My insides burn, with emotions I’m not used to the word betrayal comes to mind, pain, sadness, and of course anger!
“That’s fine…but you didn’t have to lie about it all these years.” I hiss before getting up to leave,
She catches my hand quickly stopping me in my tracks, I look back at her and I can tell she is upset she was caught but at the same time relieved. “If it makes you feel better I always watch your matches…” She smiles innocently, running her hand in a loving motion over mine.
I give a slight nod, “I’m gonna go watch Smackdown somewhere else, see you tonight.” I say in a monotone voice, heading to the door.
“I love you!” she hollers from the living room, I pause in the door frame for a split second but close it behind me pretending I didn’t hear her words.
I climb in my mustang and floor it out of my neighborhood, screeching tires disturb the normally peaceful suburb, I’m going 80 MPH in a 35 zone but I can’t help it I push harder on the pedal adrenaline rushing through me. All the stress of my failing marriage, the pressures of needing to be a perfect dad, and the thought of not being able to get back in the ring leave my mind alone for once. 90….100….120…my cell phone rings bringing me back to reality, I quickly take my foot off the gas and switch to the break before answering my phone. “Hello?” I ask in a huff out of breath from my heart racing so fast,
“Hey…what are you doing? Ah, did I just interrupt mommy and daddy alone time?” John’s voice laughs, “Cheyenne, I think they fixed their problems they’re getting down and dirty right now.” He laughs louder and Cheyenne’s laugh sounds fainter in the background. The thought makes me laugh, we haven’t had time to do anything like that in weeks!
“Nah, I’m actually driving around trying to burn off some steam, wassup?” I ask wondering where I’ll go,
“Oh okay, well I called to remind you that you have to go back to Jazmine’s.”
“Who?” I ask, reaching over to switch the radio on.
“Jazmine, you broke her foot, ring a bell?” He asks in a ‘I can’t believe you don’t remember’ voice,
“It was sprained, NOT broke!” I correct quickly,
“So you do remember, great. Just go over to her house the spare key is in the plant by the door, and watch Smackdown with her go over some of the basic’s and when someone messes up point it out to her things like that. I gotta go, have fun, and be nice!” He says before hanging up,
“I’m always nice…” I hiss throwing the phone onto the passenger’s seat,
I pull up to a small house, white with blue shutters and a big red door. I walk down the path and see the garden of colorful flowers she has planted it was so…homey, my once tense body slowly relaxes, I reach into the pot and dig a little beside the rock like she said earlier and find the key. I walk in not bothering to knock or say anything, my curiosity got the best of me so I take a quick look in the other rooms the living room was full of pictures that had to be her family. “Who’s there?” I hear Jazmine yell with a shaky voice,
A sly smirk spreads across my face knowing she is afraid, I slither down the hall slowly making each step heard as I slowly walk down the oak floor. “I have gun and no problems with actually pulling the trigger!” She yells trying to sound sterner than before, I chuckle lightly to myself making sure she can’t hear me. “I’m serious!” She yells again as I’m inches from the door, I purposely turn the knob incredibly slow almost slow-motion like. I place my hand on the door and slowly push open it creaks loudly when the door finally opens all the way something fluffy hit my head and I hear a scream that makes my ears ring.
“What the fuck was that for?” I ask, covering my ear the scream cuts off,
“Don’t ever do that again!” Jazmine yells at me, I look up at her grabbing her chest as it rises and falls faster than I’ve ever seen before, I burst into laughter. “It’s not funny, you are such a dick, I thought I was about to die!” She screams, with a slight chuckle at the end with tears in her eyes I fall to the floor laughing.
“I know you aren’t in the best part of town, but come on, really?” I chuckle, as I get up “And you threw a pillow at me? What would that do to stop someone from killing you?” I chuckle a little harder, her cheeks flush pink.
“Shut up! I didn’t have many options here now do I?” She opens her arms in a look around motion and I do,
“Alright you have a slight point.” I shrug before sitting on the trunk she had in front of her queen size bed, “why aren’t you watching Smackdown I thought you were a big fan or did you lie about that too.” I ask, when I realize how snotty I sound I mentally kick myself.
