A/N: I just wanted to say thanks to a few people before starting this chapter. First of all very big thank you to @thejudgeee for an extremely kind review she send me! You're the best for taking the time to check out my story!
And then there are also @HayleBales, @lucferase and @EliseVinzon. Thank you for all the lovely comments on my story! I adore reading them. These ladies by the way all have some pretty amazing stories, so if you stumble upon this check their pages out! They're definitely some of my favorites on here.
I didn't have the time to proofread this chapter, so if you find any mistakes just let me know!

Daniel Riva's POV

I stared at the girl in front of me with conflict bare in my eyes. For the first thirty seconds she didn't respond whatsoever.

"What kind of woman am I, then?"

Her voice was soft yet firm as she finally spoke, her gaze lowered to the ground in confusion. Merda. I had scared her. Way to go, Daniel.

"You're the kind of woman that deserves the world." I realized just how hoarse my own voice was as I continued to stare at her intensely. "And I'm not the kind of man that can give you that. It has never been about you not being good enough for me, it's about me not being good enough for you."

I wasn't sure whether what I was doing was right - exposing myself like this - but if my conversation with Valentina had made anything clear it was that life was short and that you had to live it to the fullest. Nonna had given me that much advice before her untimely passing away.

I could practically see the wheels turning inside Emeralds head as she tried to penetrate my gaze. I thought I had been clear that night after the party, but apparently I had been wrong. How the woman could have gotten it into her head that I didn't want her was beyond me - I had never wanted someone wrapped around me that much. She was so much more than just a pretty face to add to my collection of empty one-night stands, though. She deserved everything, and she should never be contented with anything less.

Sadly, I was a whole lot less.

I wasn't sure what I had been expecting from her after my confession, but it wasn't this. With nothing but surprise I watched her raise her hand until it was on eye level.

"No." Her usually gentle voice shut me down roughly before her palm hit me square in the face, leaving a red hand print where it had impacted with my cheek. A smacking sound reached my ears before I had even fully comprehended what had just happened. Admittedly she hadn't hit me that hard, but it was the gesture that counted.
