"We were

Just friends

That spoke like lovers

And that seemed to be enough for

Two teenagers who were scared to love one

another."

Your first kiss with Jae had been slow, timid even, and so light you wouldn't have believed your lips were really touching if you hadn't seen it for yourself.

Your second kiss was different.

Tightening his hands on your waist, Jae kisses you deep and passionately. A year and a half of his friendly adorableness and goofy shyness hasn't prepared you for anything like this. Pulling back for a second to catch his breath, he stares at you intensely, lips parted slightly, a look in his eyes that you've never seen before.

The next time his lips find yours, the kiss is slower but you can feel it in every last inch of your body. Heart pounding in your chest, body flush with his, your arms wrap around his neck and you lose yourself in the feeling of his lips.

There's no room for thought outside of all of the little things about him that make up this moment. Like the way his lips linger just one second longer with each new kiss, or how every time you pull away slightly, his hands push you even closer, as if he can't waste even one more second apart. The sweet taste on champagne on his tongue.

Standing there, wrapped in his embrace, you'll never know how many minutes pass before the doubts start to trickle in.

Like the fact that you both have never been anything more than friends.

And that you just so happen to have a very large crush on your classmate, and fellow project member, Sungjin.

Who, after more than a year of your one-sided pining, may finally be showing some interest in you.

Not to mention the fact that Jae's also harboring a crush on one very sweet and very pretty barista by the name of Grace.

And, said individual, may or may not be the reason the two of you have started to visit a small café on the corner of campus every day.

Not to mention that this very afternoon you were coaching Jae through his strategy to finally get up the courage to ask her out.

And most importantly, you're forgetting that right now you are standing lip to lip with, Jae.

Your.

Best.

Friend.

And even if it just so happens to be the best kiss you've ever experienced, you also may be making the biggest mistake of your life.

Because nothing, and you mean nothing, is more important to you than his friendship.

The thoughts running through your mind finally becoming too much, you break away suddenly, panting slightly. Jae's chest is heaving, and his face looks just as shocked as you feel. For one heartbeat you're both silent, followed by both of you talking at once.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"

"I didn't mean to-"

You both laugh breathlessly, pausing as soon as you realize you're interrupting one another, the awkwardness growing in the air.

"You go first," you say finally.

"I'm...I'm so sorry," Jae murmurs sheepishly, his gaze drifting away from you as he nervously rubs the back of his neck.
