Chapter 7

Lucy
November 2017

"Lucy, what are you doing?" Woody asks as he walks into my house with Luke.

I'm sitting in front of Bunny and juggling some balls she likes to play with. She's clapping and squealing and gets louder every time I add a ball. I'm up to ten balls. "Juggling for my baby, duh, nigga."

"Pa!" Lola squeals when she sees Woody, her other godfather. "Ma!"

"I see, Bunny. Ya momma thinks she's still a clown. She still thinks it's Halloween." Woody teases me because Luke, Lola, and I dressed up as Pennywise inspired clowns for Halloween. He quickly sits down next to Lola.

"Leave her alone, asshole." Luke kicks Woody on his way to the kitchen. Woody falls backwards onto the floor.

Lola squeals with laughter as I stop juggling. She crawls onto Woody to play with him. "No! It's the crazy Bunny here to take all of the candy!" Woody starts playing with her to give me a break.

I go into the kitchen with Luke. "Did you finally pick up my medicine?" I ask Luke as he unloads the bags he brought in. He went grocery shopping after I told him I would do it.

"Yes, Momma," Luke hands me my medicine with a kiss. "And I got your Ruffles, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, Amazon package that was on the porch, and Munchie hot chips."

"Thank you, baby," I kiss Luke before opening the medicine bag and popping two pills. I chase them with water and feel the affects almost instantly. I struggle to hold in a smile. When I open my eyes, Luke is staring at me. "What?"

"Why are you smiling?" He asks.

"I told you my body is out of wack. The medicine helps me get back on track. It must have a few traces of dopamine to increase my happiness. I don't know. I didn't ask my doctor for a scientific breakdown." I make my face mad. I grab my things and prepare to leave.

"Lucy," Luke sighs. He grabs my wrist and turns me to face him. "I'm sorry, baby. I just want to know about your medicine. I'm worried."

"It's okay to be worried, baby," I kiss his cheek. "But don't be. I'm fine."

"Yes, Ma, you are." Luke kisses me then my neck.

"Stop." I push him back and walk into our room. I put the pills into my bedside table so he doesn't see it in the medicine cabinet.

I take a deep breath before pulling the bottle out again and taking two more pills dry. I place them back and walk out like nothing was wrong. Because nothing is wrong. I'm fine. What I'm doing is okay and helping my body cope. It's helping me get over the miscarriage. It's what I need to get over it.

"We still going to lunch?" Woody asks as he throws Lola up in the air and catches her.

"Yeah. I have to leave early, tho. I gotta meet with Kim and JJ to go into the studio." I say as I pack Lola's bag. Luke and Woody would be having a day with her and Wally.

"Oh right. Gotta keep making that money," Woody says and I nod. "You ready for that?"

"Yeah. I am." I smile, honestly really happy to get back to work. Back to who and what I am.

We leave for lunch and enjoy ourselves. Wally meets up with us towards the end of lunch.

"Alright, baby girl, tell Mommy see you later," Luke tells Lola who pouts. "Don't give me that face, ma'am."

Lola continued to pout until I kiss her cheek. "Mommy will see you later. Okay, Bunny? Mommy is going to work then coming back to you."

"Ma." Lola nods.
