Chapter 20

Luke
April 2018

"Do you, Algee Smith, take Kimberly Lori Wallace-Tresvant to be your lawful wedded wife? To have and to hold? In sickness and in health? For better or worse? For richer or poor? For as long as you both shall live?" Pastor Sydney Kirk Mitchell, the First Family's pastor, asks Algee.

He has the biggest smile on his face and tears running down his cheeks as he looks at Kim. Kim is trying to smile but her tears take up too much of her face.

"Sorry to say it like this, Pastor, but hell yeah I do." Algee says and everyone laughs.

"Do you, Kimberly Lori Wallace-Tresvant, take Algee Smith to be your lawful wedded husband? To have and to hold? In sickness and in health? For better or worse? For richer or poor? For as long as you both shall live?" Pastor Mitchel asks Kim with a smile.

Kim clears her throat and smiles. "Imma go ahead and say I do before an ex tries to stop me."

"Smart choice." Algee winks at her and we all laugh.

"Then by the power invested in me by the United States of America, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Algee, you may kiss the bride." Pastor Mitchell smiles and moves out of the way as the two kiss.

Lucy looks at me from behind Kim and Algee with a kind of sad smile. We are a part of the wedding party. It's her sister's wedding, why does she look upset?

We walk out behind the newlyweds into the reception where everyone is cheering. I hold Lucy tight as the first dance happens. After an acceptable amount of time, I pull Lucy onto the dance floor.

"What's your problem?" I ask with a smile as we dance.

Lucy smiles up at me for appearance-sake. "Nothing, baby. Why would I have a problem?"

"Is it your anxiety? Depression?" I asks and she shakes her head.

"Neither. Nothing's wrong, Boyd." Lucy says and I frown.

"Why are you lying to me? I thought it was no more secrets, Lucy?" I ask and she frowns.

"There are none. Luke, I—"

"Sorry to cut in," RJ pulls Lucy away from me. "Siblings dance starts now."

He twirls his younger sister over to his youngest sister and the three dance together with smiles. Algee dances with his little sister and brother before the parents dance with the the bride and groom.

I don't get a chance to finish hearing what Lucy has to say because she's pulled into dances with her uncles and cousins. The entire First Family and Algee's family take turns dancing with each other while others watch before the floor is opened to everyone.

"Lucy, can we ta—" I'm cut off by Michael B grabbing Lucy to dance. I can't really be upset. Since I suggested a threesome between the three of us, Michael has been spending more time around us. But damnit— I need to find out what's wrong with Lucy!

I sit at the wedding party's table with a frown.

"Fix your face, baby." My mom says when she comes up to the table. Of course Kim and Algee went beyond and invited all of the First Family's extended family. That included the Bigs' and Smalls' family members, Kim's cousins' partners' family members, and even Uriah— Wally's ex-boyfriend. Talk about tea between Uriah, Wally, and Yasmine Wally's new girlfriend. The tension was slightly thick in the room.

"It's fixed." I say even though I know a frown still sits on my face.

"Lucy will talk whenever she's ready," my mom pats my hand. She pauses before continuing to speak. "Y'all still thinking about that ridiculous threesome idea?"
