ch. one - "the academy"

He sat in a wheelchair in front of two large iron gates. Charles Xavier. Eloise was almost starstruck. He was the celebrity in her dreams. The only man she ever looked up to. The man who kept her companies on the nights where she felt she might do something she shouldn't, and the nights that were the happiest, and best of her life. He sat in front of Eloise, smiling.

"Welcome, Eloise." He beckoned me to come closer.

"Please, call me Ellie." Her fingers fiddled with a loose string on my shirt.

"Alright, Ellie. Come on in." Mr Xavier opened the gates and they entered the property.

The property was huge, maybe ten or fifteen acres. But the mansion was the focal point. Green moss snuck up the side of it's beige, weathered bricks. There were so many windows Ellie couldn't ever count them if she tried, and the dark oak doors towered over her as she stood in front of them.

"The students here call me Professor X." He informed her. "And almost all of them have an alternate name."

"Oh?"

"Yes, such names are mostly used in combat, though."

Eloise's face was struck with confusion.

"Don't worry, it's only happened once." Professor X reassured her. "Every student rooms with one other student, and all students have classes every second day.

"Oh, okay." Eloise nodded. We were now moving through the halls of the school. The inside was extravagant; chocolate brown wood, expensive tapestries and carpets, portraits of former students lined the walls. This place was wonderland.

"Since I keep an eye on our potential students from a very young age, we pair the students with a suitable roommate at 13, when personalities begin to show. Your roommate has been here for 3 years already, and her name is Rosa."

"What's her alternate name?" Eloise asked. The concept of combat intrigued Eloise and she hoped to get an alternate name soon.

"Her combat name is Shadow."

Eloise was taken aback. "Ominous." She muttered.

"Ah, it's only because of her very unique gift." Professor X chuckled.

"Which is?"

"Rosa has the ability to slip her consciousness into someone else's shadow. She never does so, of course, but she is our greatest asset to the combat team here."

They had begun to walk past doors with numbers on them, similar to those of a college dorm. The Professor stopped his motor-powered wheelchair in front of a door with the number 448 on it.

"This is your room. Rosa is inside and she will most likely explain the rest."

"Goodbye Professor." She waved as he zoomed away from her.

Eloise faced the door and knocked.

A girl, with golden, caramel skin, opened the door with a smile on her face. Her hair looked thick and smooth, and her smile seemed welcoming and kind.

"You must be Rosa?" Eloise smiled as Rosa let her into the room. It was a large room, with two identical, white four-post beds on either side of the room, one dresser on either side, and one desk on either side. The walls were painted off-white, and the floors were a reddish-orange wood; comfortable to stand on, yet cold on your feet. There were windows behind each dresser, looking out onto the green meadowy area behind the building.

"Yes! Professor X told me to expect a roommate." She said excitedly.

She spoke her words quickly and joyfully, as she told Eloise of how she had been without a roommate for the whole three years she had been there.

"I'll let you settle in." She smiled graciously at Eloise and pointed to the other side of the room; a desk in the corner, an oakwood dresser, and a simple four post bed, much like her's, although Eloise's had a pearl-white duvet with a pale green sheet fitted under it.

"Thank you." Eloise returned her smile, and went to unpack her things.

She looked out the window behind the dresser; the birds sang in beautiful songs outside, the trees whispered sweet hymns to the mutants lounging in the grass and the wind hummed harmonious melodies of happiness to me.

The song of new beginning, had just begun.
