ch. 3 - fighting ring
Elouise swung around abruptly at the sound of the voice.
The boy from the cafeteria, Peter, faced her with an eager smirk.
"I'll bet you twenty bucks you won't last 15 seconds with me in the ring, Speedy!" Elouise's eyes lit up mischievously.
"I'll take you up on that bet, Ghost! Meet me in the ring in 10 minutes." He winked and walked away towards another boy who had just finished brawling in the ring.
Elouise took in the sight in front of her, as even though 'defense' was a class, this class was beyond her imagination.
A man, she knew him as Logan, walked around demonstrating his retractable metal blades that came out of his knuckles. Professor Xavier zoomed around in his little wheelchair, aiding each student individually; helping them master their talents.
Logan made his way over to Elouise and smiled at her with kind eyed. "I'm Logan, what's your name kid?"
"My name is Elouise Mercury." Her tone was formal; she was always taught to be polite to one's elders.
"Nice to meet you, so what do you do?"
"I can apparate anywhere I need to go to, and control minds." Elouise, for the first time in her life, felt proud of herself. She felt appreciated, and valued: something she had never felt in the human world.
"That's cool kid." Logan's eyes glanced behind Elouise towards the boxing ring. "It looks like Peter's callin' you over. I'll see you around Elouise."
She waved goodbye to him as he strutted away before turning to walk towards the boxing ring.
"It's been ten minutes already?" Elouise checked her watch.
"Well, no, but Sam and Gus were done so I thought we should grab the ring before anyone else does." He smiled a crooked smile.
Elouise shrugged, the lack of time to prepare not really mattering to her.
"Well, let's get to it Speedy!"
He smiled and sped around the back of Elouise, feeling his knuckles touch her back before she escaped to the other side of the ring.
"Almost as good as me! Wow!" He put his hands on his hips.
"I'm a bit out of practice, I must admit." Elouise pondered for a moment. "But not so out of practice that I can't beat you!"
"We'll see about that." He sped around Elouise quickly and punched her in the stomach.
Elouise fell down on the sweaty floor and clutched her stomach in pain.
"Are you okay?" He came up to her and rested his hand on her back comfortingly. Elouise grinned slyly and teleported behind him, grabbed his wrist and slammed him on the floor.
"Okay, Ghost." Peter got up slowly, rubbing his back. "Can you walk through walls too?"
Elouise smiled, proud of herself. They fought a few more rounds until they both grew tired, and rested.
"I'll see you Speedy." Elouise called out to Peter as she left the training room.
"Maybe you will, maybe you won't..." He winked and Elouise rolled her eyes.
In her room, she opened her laptop to find multiple posts of her old friends having fun at a party. Elouise missed them, although sometimes it felt as if they didn't enjoy her company. Nonetheless, she found home with those people, and knew she was going to have trouble finding a new place to belong after leaving her only source of stability.
Elouise noticed herself becoming more and more heartbroken as she thought of all the memories she had made. She thought of the bad ones, but mostly the good ones. It was hard that they never stayed in touch with her once she left school. But, she supposed if they truly were good friends they would've kept in touch. At least she knew who her friends really were and what she meant to them. Nothing at all.
To distract herself from the spiral she was falling into, Elouise opened up Netflix and began to watch a show she had been watching the week previous.
She grew tired after three episodes and finally went to sleep. Sleep is an escape, and oh, how Elouise longed for escape.
