(Edited)
"Where have you been?" Thor Odinson demands, storming out from behind a golden pillar. His face was etched with anger and irritation and in all honestly Lomi wanted nothing to do with his foul mood.
Loki glances over at his brother, his eyes filled with innocence. "You were looking for me?" he says, and then lets out a sorrowful pained chuckle. "That's a first. Usually you're out with your friends, being a hero and what not." His words slowly etch with disgust and his gaze hardens on the floor that he now stared so intently at.
Thor furrows his miskept blonde eyebrows that matched his hair color perfectly. "Loki, where have you been?" Thor presses again stepping closer to his brother. His voice is etched with irritation, and seems to rumble through the halls.
"I was reading." Loki lies simply and if Thor hadn't had known him since he was young he'd probably be fooled
"You weren't in the library." Thor raises his head with a grumble.
"I don't have to read in the library." Loki shoots
simply, yet doesn't let his tone turn sharp. He picks up his pace, waking a little farther ahead of his brother. He wasn't particularly in the mood for deceiving his brother anymore then he had already and he was exhausted.
He also didn't want to replace the happiness he had, spending time with Ella, by arguing with his brother. "Why were you looking for me in the first place, dearest brother?" Loki questions, knowing his brother would hear him. He was still trailing close behind.
"That is of no concern now, I was looking for you for three hours! Now where were you!" He practically yells, and the halls echo with his fury.
That was a long time for his brother to care. "That's a long time. Funny you would actually spend that much time doing something that involves me," Loki mumbles under his breath. He whips around towards him. "I would watch your tone. I wouldn't want to wake anyone up. Father would have a fit if you woke him." Loki knew it would be impossible for his voice to reach their room but he never backed down from a moment to poke at his brother.
Night had fallen over Asgard just as it had fallen over where Ella lived, and of course Thor was still up. It was convenient to Loki's luck. By this time, all of the castle's staff were sound asleep, except for a couple maids who might have been busting themselves with work and what not.
Loki keeps his calm stride down the hall as his brother storms up to him, his face now gleaming red with anger. If he were enraged much more, Loki would've expected smoke to come out from his ears. He smiled at such a picture it made in his mind.
"Do not play games with me brother." He hissed, quieter now. He knew to be considerate and Loki gave him that much.
He in fact cared nothing of his brother's useless anger. And knew that if he said no more, Thor would believe his reading act.
So he kept walking, much to Thor's disapproval. "Then where were you reading, if not in your room, and not in the library?"
"The Gardens. Ever look there Thor?" He knew he hadn't. He never went there, he still to this day knew not why.
But it was enough and Thor was left speechless, not having much more to say because he knew his brother had bested him. Loki had lied and his brother pushed no further.
That brought a victorious smile to Loki's face.
He didn't turn to look if Thor was still trailing behind him when he reached his room. He simply walked in and locked the valiant doors.
Loki strided to the other side of his room and stopped staring up at a wall full of books. His eyes scanned over every single one, trying to find one that would appease his mind. None seemed fitting.
He'd always finish out the day with a quick read. It was a habit his mother had taught him. When he was young he'd have horrible nightmares of his skin tinting a deep horrible blue and frost giants coming to take him away. His mother taught him to appease his mind and take his mind off such things, to read a book..
He purses his lips before turning and walking to his desk which was in fact covered in his many things. His hand grazed over a couple unusual artifacts he had collected from his many years of life, all of them were unique and strange. All of them are magical and powerful in some way. They would be excavated to matter a great deal to him, Except only one mattered the most.
He held the tiny thing in his hand. It was a small little bracelet, of what the earth people called plastic beads. It was far too small for Loki's hand. Three tiny purple squared beads spelled the word dad. Loki smiled at the multi-colored thing.
Ella had made it when she was 6, when she had begun to understand who Loki was to her, and that her parents didn't approve. She had made this thing and said.
"Don't worry, you'll be my daddy too. I'll have two! I made this for you!" The little girl thrusted the tiny bracelet into his hands, a large goofy smile on her face.
Loki looked down at the thing. Something lit up inside of him as his smile grew. It warmed his bones and made his heart flutter in softness. She was more than just an object, and a person to cause chaos with. And he figured he wanted her to be more. To be family.
Loki's hand closes around the small thing as he gently places it back in its place, hanging on the wall.
