Jimin stares at the ramen cooking in front of him, no appetite whatsoever. He doesn't even realise as it starts to boil over.
"Jimin! For fuck's sake..." Yoongi turns the hob off and takes the pan away from the heat. "Chim..."
"I'm fine, hyung. Go back to bed..."
"I couldn't sleep..." The elder sighs, poking the noodles with Jimin's chopsticks, seeing if they can be salvaged.
"Why not?"
"You weren't there..."
Jimin clenches his jaw. He wants to be mad at Yoongi but he understands exactly why the elder is upset. "Yoongi, you can sulk all you want but I will see Hobi on Saturday and I will learn how to protect myself."
"I know... and I overreacted, I'm sorry. I just... I feel like I've failed you..." Yoongi looks away and puts the ramen back on the stove, turning the heat down a little.
Jimin frowns, confused. "What? Why would you feel like that?.."
"Earlier... I couldn't do anything. I know you need to learn and I'm glad you want to, Chim. But you're my summin, I'm supposed to protect you! And I've failed. If it wasn't for that fucking hunter I probably would have died trying to protect you, because I'm fucking soft." He grits his teeth and gives up on the ramen, hands tightening around the edge of the side board.
"Yoongi, you're only weak because you were mentally strong enough not to hurt my best friend. No one's blaming you for being weak right now..." The younger reaches forward to comfort him, but Yoongi steps back.
"I am."
"Well, you shouldn't be! It was a good thing that you did. I'm really grateful for it... But let's say you're healed, and you're at work, and so am I, and some demon smells you on me and is looking for a fight... You won't be there to save me. I need to be able to save myself." Jimin implores, begging Yoongi to understand him.
The fragment looks at him sadly. "You shouldn't have to... You shouldn't even be in this situation."
Yoongi turns and goes to leave but Jimin grabs his wrist. He knows Yoongi could still leave easily if he wanted to, but it's more the gesture that's important.
"Do you regret it?... Turning me..." He gulps, not sure if he's ready for the answer.
There's a long pause. Yoongi breathes for a second then sighs. "I don't know, Chim... Kind of..." Jimin's hand drops to his side, mouth ajar, and Yoongi walks to the door pausing slightly when he hears Jimin's sniffle.
"Why?..." It's almost a whisper but Yoongi hears it louder than a scream.
"Because... I'd never wanted to be human, before... Not until you..."
***
Jimin had been thinking over Yoongi's words all afternoon. In fact, it was almost evening and it was still all he could think about.
'I'd never wanted to be human before... Not until you..'
Why would Yoongi want to be human? And how is it because of Jimin? It didn't make sense to him but he was getting almost used to the fact that nothing in his life made sense. Ramen forgotten, he is now very hungry. He remembers what Namjoon had said to him. Fuck. He hadn't touched Yoongi at all since earlier. And they both needed to eat. He gets out his phone and orders a couple of things from a Thai place he likes. He opens the door to his bedroom and sees Yoongi fast asleep. At least that's something, he's resting. He closes the door quietly and waits in the living room for the food. His phone buzzes.
