I stood near the bench and watched as the guys did their pre-game warm-up. We were going to face the Montreal Canadiens, one of our biggest rivals. I looked at the guys and saw Tyler give me a quick glance; yeah we haven’t really spoken after the little incident. I quickly looked away and as I did that was when I noticed NESN reporter Naoko Funayama.
She smiled “Hello Miss Neely, could we get an interview with you?”
NESN was one of the very few networks that actually didn’t bash on me when I became President. I smiled “Of course you can.”
“Oh great.” She turned towards the camera-guy “Steve get ready.”
Steve nodded and as soon as he got the camera in place, he began to count down. After he was through Naoko began to speak. “Standing next to me is the Bruins current President Jessica Neely. Jessica we are minutes before the game against your rivals Montreal. What shall we expect from this game?”
I chuckled “A heated hockey game. I mean every time these two teams meet it’s always a great game. You know Montreal is a great team but today the guys are going to be bringing their A-game like they have been doing in the last few games.”
“Speaking of the last few games, the Bruins have done excellent and have a five game winning streak. Is there something new that you have tried out?”
I rubbed my nose “Yeah. Julien, Houda, and I have been trying out new lines and it’s been working exceptionally well, especially the Horty-Lucic-Krech line. Those three have great chemistry and that line with Ference and Seidenberg as defensemen is true perfection.”
Naoko smiled “Thank you Jessica for your time and I wish you the best of luck for tonight.”
I placed a hand on Naoko’s back “Thank you very much.”
The camera shut off and Naoko turned towards me “Thanks for the interview, so many of our viewers have been begging us to get one with you.”
I tilted my head to the side “Really?”
She nodded “Yeah.”
I couldn’t believe it. I smiled “Well if you guys want another interview feel free to ask me anytime.”
“Will do.” Naoko smiled at me once more before leaving with Steve.
As soon as they left I looked up at the clock and saw it was 6:40. They had ten more minutes on the ice, and this was my cue to go head up to the press box. While gathering my belongings I heard someone call my name. I looked up and saw it was McQuaid and he was motioning for me to come out on the ice.
I sighed and without wasting any time, I kicked off my heels and placed on a pair of skates before skating out onto the ice. Once I got to McQuaid I stopped and looked at him.
“What is it Adam?”
“Looch isn’t going to be playing tonight due to his suspension, so who’s going to fill in his spot?”
