I walked down the hallways of the Garden after just finishing up a meeting with some of the team’s board members. The meeting consisted of upcoming games, each Bruin player’s individual strengths and weaknesses; however we mainly spoke about our Saturday game against the Canucks, and Peter Chiarelli basically stated that it was a game in which we must win. So to make sure that we did win, I headed to the guys’ locker room and looked at past games of the Canucks and a few of their games against us last year during the Stanley Cup Finals.

I walked into the locker room and saw it was empty. The guys don’t start rolling in until a quarter of six, so I had more than enough time. I proceeded to hook up the projector before shutting the lights off and settling down to watch some old game reels.

While watching the Canucks I was able to see a reoccurring tactic that they were doing, and that was trying to get the other team penalties, thus forcing powerplays to happen. I scoffed and rubbed the back of my neck.

“How the hell did I not see this before?”

I got up feeling angry that I had not noticed this before and due to the fact that powerplays were our weakest area unlike the Canucks who dominated powerplays, heck they were the best powerplay team in the league. I sighed and grabbed my notebook as I began to bullet down some things.

•They try and make powerplays happen.

•Hansen & the Sedins are the players used during the powerplays and they mainly score a goal by tiring out their opponent’s team (trying to keep the puck in their opponent’s side of the rink thus allowing them to not change out)

•The Canucks NEVER make plays on the side of the rink. They always play straight down the middle.

•Bieska is on the ice for at least 29 minutes every game. He works best with Burrows

•Their weakness is clearing the puck out of their end and they suck at blocking rebounds at their net once it gets crowded. One of their biggest flaws is holding the puck / thinking too long.

I just continued jotting down all the notes I could, allowing me to mentally picture new plays. However there was one play that I had and in order to not lose it I got up from my seat and walked over to the large glass whiteboard in which we used specifically for plays. I grabbed a black marker and just let my hand do the talking.

“Bergy can play off in the center with Segs close by the net and Looch on his left as Thorty and Z defend off players as we make our entrance through the blue line. We pass the puck around a few times and as Z, Bergy and Looch form a triangle around the net, Bergy acts as if he losing control of the puck however he fakes it and passes it to Segs who enters from the left and with the speed he has he advances towards the net with Looch behind him in case he is needed for a rebound.”

I continued drawing out my play and as I was a voice said “Nice play.”

I jumped a little, causing the marker to fall. As I turned around I saw that it was none other than Tyler, someone I haven’t seen for almost two weeks.

I looked down at my watch “Ah…what are you doing here? It’s only 4:00.”

“I know.” He placed his duffle bag in his stall “I wanted to practice a little bit. What are you doing here?”
