Luke's POV
--------------------
Emma was pressing money into her grandfather's, my boss', hand. I watched as she looked over at me and I turned around playing my stare off as I looked over at Lea and started brushing my hand over her coat.
Emma walked over to us and started to stroke Lea on her head, Lea leaned into her hand, sighing like she was never stroked and never appreciated, even though she always was.
"So..." Emma started and looked at me, as soon as our eyes connected she looked down. "Emma!!!" I heard that overspoiled little Robertson boy,Cole, called Emma.
She sighed and walked over to him. Lea nuzzled her nose into my chest and face. I pushed her face away gently and she nickered at me, almost like a mocking laugh, "What? I don't have a thing with her...," I trailed off, as I realized, that I was talking to a horse. My cheeks turned a little red.
Emma ran over to me and said, out of breathe, "Do you want to *pant* come with us *pant* to dinner?" she finally gasped out as I chuckled. She glared at me and I nodded my head. She nodded her head and took off again.
I shook my head and lead Lea out of the stable and to the pickup. I waited until the whole group came to the pickup and everyone got in their designated cars. Emma sat in the front seat along with her grandpa.
I started messing with her hair that was pressed against the headrest, still tied in a bun. I pulled the ponytail holder out of her hair to see another one in and her hair unwinding back to the ponytail it was put in first.
I pulled the ponytail out as she sighed, she turned slightly around in her seat and held her hand out. I gave her a questioning look and she gestured to the ponytail holder in my hand.
I pouted and she gave me a look. She pulled her fingers to her palm in a 'give it' kind of motion. I finally handed it over and she smiled.
She pulled the sun visor down and started to put her hair back up. She ran her fingers through her hair gathering it back up in a ponytail, with the ponytail holder in her mouth. I started to laugh but covered it up with a cough.
She glared at me as we pulled up to the restaurant. I grinned at her and she stuck her tongue out at me.
"Emma...you don't need to be making faces," her grandpa said with a chuckle. I grinned and she made the 'I'm watching you' finger motion, pointing two of her fingers at her eyes and then at me.
We started to get out of the pickup, but me, being the clumsy person I am, tripped and stepped into a hole, my ankle hurt to no end.
The nerves in my foot are sending bursts of pain back to my brain, as my brain registered the pain I bit my lip to stop myself from hollering and cursing like a sailor.
Emma, Lily and Carrolette moved around me, trying to get me in a posistion that allowed them to move me safely out of the hole. God that kinda sounds wrong, anyways.
They finally moved me in a certain place so, Easton, John Luke and Cole, could pick me up. They laid me in the backseat of the pickup as they drove me to the hospital.
Emma sat in the back seat wiwth my head on her lap, she stroked my hair to the side of my head, asking me if I was ok. I nodded, not trusting my voice. She nodded and played with my hair.
Weren't she and Cole a thing? I kinda thought they are, but I wasn't sure. We hit a bump and I winced. "Grandpa, be careful please!" Emma cried, I smiled a weak smile. We pulled up to the hospital and I was rushed inside.
Emma's POV
-------------------
I was currently sitting in the hospital waiting room, obviously waiting. I shook my head. Cole was sitting beside me at first but then he started to spread out and I moved, not wanting to be squashed by his fat butt.
I was sitting in a single chair and my legs were tucked underneath me. I probably looked like those cats sitting on the table. I yawned and snuggled farther into the hard stuffed seats.
The doctor came out and my grandpa stood up. They talked a little while before the doctor left, going back into the rooms. My grandpa put his head in his hands and sighed. I walked over on the opposite side of him, my grandma being on the other side.
I rubbed his shoulders, then leaned my head against his arm. I saw Cole out of the corner of my eye. He was staring at us and I wished I could pull a curtain around us, this was us, if he has a problem then he can just get out.
Amy and Reed pulled up, Lily must have called them, they stayed home from the races. Amy came running in and sat by Lily in front of grandpa and Reed went to sit with Cole and John Luke.
Then two nurses came out with Luke, who was leaning on crutches and had a cast on his foot. We all got up, some of us slowly, others quite quick. My grandpa and I helped him to get out the door and into the car, we started driving home, Luke groaned a couple of times as we hit bumps, him bumping both his head and his ankle.
We got back to the farm and helped him get to the main house, Grandpa said that he was not going to sleep all alone in his house. Grandpa said "Go get him some clothes and anything else he might nned like toothbrush and all that junk." he told me, I nodded and took off.
I started walking after I got outside. I thought about what he would need, clothes, toothbrush and toothpaste, I couldn't think of anything else. I went to his hall and pulled some clothes out of his closet, I searched around, not snooping, until I found his toothbrush and toothpaste.
I shoved them into a drawstring bag and sling it over one shoulder, walking out of his room. I past the barn and heard two or three nickers and whines. I looked between the house and the barn, multiple times, before deciding to go to the barn.
I walked in and smelt the smells of a barn, leather saddles, bridles, and halters, hay and sweet feed, the horses. I walked over to some stalls, seeing horses I haven't ever seen before. Who are these? I wondered.
I looked at the papers hanging beside the stalls, one saying that one horse is a broodmare, and the other is a renter from New York. I nodded my head and stroked their noses' , feeling the velvet smoothness. I moved on down the line until I found Winter.
I stroked his nose as he leaned into me. He was surrounded by mares and geldings, the stallions being in another barn entirely. Sighing, I left, hoping not to get yelled at by grandpa.
