Emma's POV

------------------

It had been five days, John Luke, Cole, and Reed had already left. Amy, Lily and I had stayed behind with the horses.

We all had been helping Grandpa and Grandma with their chores and taking care of Luke.

I had started to spend more time with Luke, talking and joking. He always tried to sucker me into helping him walk around when he was ordered on bed rest.

He talked about us, as friends and as a couple. He said "We have chemistry Emma!" as he grabbed my hand, almost desperately.

I never said anything, always just sitting there as he would sigh, exasperated, throwing himself back on his bed.

I rubbed my eyes to wake myself up as I walked down the stairs in an oversized t-shirt and shorts. I walked into Luke's room, hoping for just a simple conversation.

He was still asleep and I rolled my eyes at his laziness. I sat down in one of the chairs beside his bed, curling up and I yawned, still not fully awake.

"Morning," Luke yawned out.

I smiled and said "Morning," back. He stretched out in the bed.

"What's the time and day?" he asked.

"It is.... 8:48 and the 21 st. ," I said looking at my watch.

He nodded and groaned, starting to sit up. I shook my head, "Uhhhhhhhhh no," I said as I pushed him back down.

He sighed, looking upwards. "Unless you want me to pee the bed or in a bottle, can you please let me up?" He asked.

He started to get up as I looped on to his arm holding his hand to help him up. We made it to the bathroom and he did his business.

He came out and asked me "Do you want to go dancing in three days?"

Hmmm how convenient, that was the day he got his cast off. I smiled and pretended to think about it for a while.

He looked at me and I grinned, nodding. He grinned and side hugged me.

I guided him to his bed and started to leave. He grabbed my hand. "Don't go, please!"

"I have to, Winter needs to be worked and I don't really trust anybody else." I explained quickly. He finally nodded and I left.

I walked out to the barn, pulling Winter's leadrope off his hook.

I opened the stall gate and Winter walked out, stopping to allow me to hook the leadrope on to his halter.

I clipped him to the cross ties and walked to the tack room, where I had put my tack.

I pulled Winter's saddle down off a rack, I thought about it and decided to put it back.

I walked back out of the tack room with a lunge line in my hand. I clipped it on Winter's halter, unclipped his leadrope, walking him out of the barn.

I led him to the main pen when there were no other horses around, which took a little while.

I started by trotting him and then changing his gaits into a canter, as he ran around me. I smiled and turned him in one smooth motion, now running the other way.

After a little while, I stopped him, pulling him into my side. I grabbed a leadrope that was draped across the fence. I changed the leadrope and lunge line, throwing the lunge line over the fence and the leadrope over Winters neck.

I pulled the leadrope through the circle by his chin and tied it into a knot. I walked him over to the fence and slide onto his back, making sure my reins were tightened.

I walked Winter around a little bit before walking over to the gate, opening it while still in Winter's back, I then closed it and we started off.

We rode all around the farm before I brushed him out, then putting him in his stall.

Three days later

Luke's POV

---------------

I was walking out of the hospital, victorious with the cast off. I walked around as much as I could, for when I took Emma out dancing. I got into the pickup with my best friend, Eric, who decided he and his girlfriend are going to accompany us, hopefully he won't start anything that might not end well.

We drove back to Calvin's. Eric was still trying to get a job working for him after my good reports on how nice he was and how he fed you and gave you someplace to live.

We got there and I stepped out of the pickup carefully, I don't think they (Emma and family) even got to eat out at the steakhouse, they might've just skipped supper all together. I shook out of my thoughts and saw Emma was riding up on her horse, very fast if I might say.

She pulled up next to me and smiled, "We still on for tonight?" she asked.

I nodded my head, "Of course, I would never skipout on a beautiful girl like yourself," I grinned.

She shook her head mumbled,Whatever under her breath and turned Winter, riding off. I shook my head and started walking to the main house.

I stopped in and assured Calvin and Charrolette that I was fine and went to get ready to go out.
